its hard to say for certain but the sea lion pup, seahorse, dolphin and guitarfish are very similar to Schleich. The cownose ray, bonnethead shark, and moray look like Safari. The swordfish, sawfish, and spotted ray look like chapmei. The others it is hard to tell.

EpicRaptorMan

Yeah they pretty much all look like knockoffs

Thanks guys!  While comparing the sawfish to Chap mei's I think I realised what was going on with some of these, they are indeed knockoffs but they've been modified slightly, for example some of the fins on the sailfish were made smooth, or the bonnethead being given one more gill slit (on each side) or what convinced me of this, the sawfish having articulation removed.  It's a shame as I like the blue shark a lot, it looks better than anyone else's.  If it's a knockoff too I'm guessing it's of one of Schleich's blue sharks.  Toymany has made at least two other blue sharks, which appear to be original, but they don't look as good as this one.  I don't think I can collect knock-offs, but man do I want that blue shark!  I may have to settle with Colorata's.

I found another shark set by Toymany, but I don't know if it's older, since the figures mostly don't look as good as the shark set being discussed in this thread.  This is the other set: https://www.amazon.co.uk/toymany-Realistic-Figurines-Christmas-Birthday/dp/B0BX7X1FYG/ref=asc_df_B0BX7X1FYG/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=658889543753&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9094674982026145915&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045969&hvtargid=pla-2198007442777&gclid=CjwKCAjwysipBhBXEiwApJOcu9fYfPWeNLmtfFD2sdz5hC1DVfKKrwsqlXtK4HydLXiuqnmioBjNEBoCHroQAvD_BwE&th=1
The zebra shark looks intermediate as a growth stage between Safari's and CollectA's, although that might be incorrect, I don't know enough to be sure of it.
The mako shark looks like a badly done great white shark.
The tiger shark might be an option for those who want one with five gill slits.
The blue shark would be great if it was painted more like the real animal.
The hammerhead shark looks very good, can anyone tell what species it is from the image that shows the sharks from above?

I did some further comparing and I believe the hammerhead shark in the set I posted previously is a scalloped hammerhead.

I've acquired the Toymany shark set with 8 sharks, here are my thoughts:
1. Sawshark: It's nice to have a good figure of it.
2. Bonnethead shark: It's my first hammerhead shark figure as an adult.  I had been avoiding hammerhead sharks as I wasn't interested in them, but now I'm happy to have this one by Toymany and I'm interested in having more hammerhead sharks.
3. Mako shark: My favourite figure in the set.  I'm happy to have this one and the version by CollectA as one is male and the other is female.
4. Great white shark: I was surprised by how good this figure is.  It might be the best great white shark figure there is!  It's a nice size too.
5. Lemon shark: I like this figure!  It's now the lemon shark in my collection.
6. Bamboo shark: I'm not interested in this type of shark.
7. Blacktip reef shark: I was surprised by how good this figure is too!  I'm happy to have it.
8. Thresher shark:  I really like this figure!

I hope Toymany makes additional original figure sets, whoever is sculpting their figures is very good!  I would be interested in another shark set by Toymany, maybe with a blue shark with accurate colouration, a greenland shark, a sand tiger shark, another large hammerhead shark and the abomination that is the cookiecutter shark.  I'd also be interested in a crocodilian set and a feathered dromaeosaurid/raptor set by Toymany!

Saarlooswolfhound

I am glad you like them too Sim. :) I hope they flourish and continue to present unique figures.

EpicRaptorMan

Just got my penguins in today. And wow I like them. I'm still undecided on the Adélie penguin but the rest are good.
Def keeping the Erect-crested, Yellow-eyed, Macaroni, baby King, King, and Fairy penguins. Might swap out my large SafariLtd for this chinstrap too.

EpicRaptorMan

This is my penguin collection before and after ToyMany.

The size and painting of the Adélie along with its head shape just wasn't good enough for me to include. The Emperor Penguin wasn't quite up to my older Schleich. The baby Emperor Penguin couldn't beat my CollectA's twins. The adult King Penguin was too close in size to my old Schleich and has difficulties staying upright. The African penguin I found the pose to be odd and just couldn't surpass my previous species representative for me to replace. The SafariLtd Chinstrap penguin has been replaced as I found SafariLtd's version to be much too bulky.

And that's it. The Yellow-eyed Penguin was almost too big but it's uniqueness as a species made me keep it. I do want to mention that ToyMany's Gentoo penguin is also fabulous — I love the pose. It does have benefits over CollectA's Gentoo penguin...but I'm not sure yet may have to keep both!

Yes, this figure is likely supposed to represent either a Scalloped Hammerhead Shark (Sphyrna lewini) or a Carolina Hammerhead (Sphyrna gilberti).

At first... this felt personal.  But I'm glad you've come around on Hammerhead Sharks.

Quote from: Sim on October 21, 2023, 05:22:14 PM6. Bamboo shark: I'm not interested in this type of shark.
Brutal.  Poor Bamboosharks - some of the most interesting and adaptable sharks can't get no love.  I would love to see Toymany tackle a set of just small sharks - Bamboosharks (just once, an adult would be nice), Epaulette Sharks, Catsharks, Dogfish, smaller Requiem sharks, Angelsharks, Wobbegongs, Houndsharks, another small Hammerhead species (like the Winghead!).  Many small sharks boast the most intricate and detailed colors and patterns that many large and medium-sized sharks (except maybe the Whale Shark and the Zebra Shark) lack.  I hope someday you can see these diverse small sharks for the vital species they are and as being worthy of collecting as well.  In the meantime, I'm glad you are enjoying this set!  I have it and enjoy it, too!

Sim

Yes, I'm interested in hammerhead sharks now.  I don't know if I'll ever find those other sharks interesting but I appreciate you enlightening me a bit about them!  An exception is the wobbegong sharks, which I am interested in having a good figure of.  Schleich's has weird patterning which stops me from wanting it.  Coming back to what sharks I find interesting, I have a frilled shark from Safari's prehistoric marine life toob and quite a few fish from Safari's prehistoric sharks toob that I'm not keeping in my collection unlike other figures from those toobs.  I guess I didn't find them interesting enough.  But this discussion has made me think maybe they would be good additions to my collection?

Yes, I am enjoying this Toymany set!  I'm glad you're enjoying it too!

Saarlooswolfhound

I just the other cat set I was missing. I will post them soon here. :)

Yeah I have been deleting it at least three times. @animaltoyforum - the user may need to be blocked (not sure if I have that right or not)

EDIT: Adam, I was able to take care of it

@bmathison1972

WOW, thanks @JimoAi - I can see myself getting this for the caiman (instead of Papo), spider, scorpion, and maybe the bearded dragon and frilled lizard to replace Kaiyodo versions (depending on the size in-hand)

EDIT: any ID on the frog? Could be interesting, too!

A new species! Alright, I am ordering the set. Now. LOL

bmathison1972

Ohhh and I see the caiman is specifically a black caiman, so I can get Papo's as a 'spectacled'.

Saarlooswolfhound

Exciting! I love seeing new sets, though I am falling behind on ordering them...

EpicRaptorMan

The caiman and axolotl do look good. As does the Solomon Leaf Frog, but I'm not sure if it's enough for me to order them... ???

sbell

Wow. Three leopard geckos in one year.

How did Toymany do a better job than Mojo?
