490626228-5.jpg I want to make this CollectA great white shark better by carving larger gills and giving it a more accurate colour scheme. I don't know why collectA gave a half baked job on this great white. It has the best size and teeth for a great white but the poorest gills and color scheme. The sculpt would be perfect for me if wasn't for the tiny gills

Batoideas fans rejoice as there is a set of batoids coming up in July. They looked like they are pressing their underbellies on the wall of an Aquarium or somethinG and there's at least 1 unique species. Also, none of the quintessential batoids: manta rays, Sawfish or Bowmouth guitarfish are part of this set 000000001682_hg70n4T.jpg

Well those look neat.
@brettnj any idea when we can order them?

But...why do none of them appear to have tails?

brettnj

Hey Sean.

I haven't seen this set announced on any of the sites I check daily (Does the original poster want to send me the link to the main page where this was found?), but I can take orders now regardless and will add teh image to my next group mail.

Thanks for asking.
Brett

What species is the yellow ray on the enlarged photo?

JimoAi

The 3 recognizable ones are the Red stingray, Spotted eagle ray and a cownose ray. Not sure about the yellow one or the guitarfish

Is it a guitarfish or a longnose skate?

I thought it looked like one of those weird deepwater skates
Either would be good

Recent Safari LTD acquisitions, original and customized.

Monterey Bay Aquarium big-eyed thresher shark. Original:

Customized: not only colour scheme upgraded but also shape of fins, and deletion of mould seams with a cutter. Also, strangely, original have 5 gill slits in right side but 6 in left side, so I closed the first one on the left side by adding paste over it.

And now a detail of the head. Original:

Customized:
alopias3.jpg

I did not made teeth because they would so almost microscopic at this scale, hence too difficult to made

And now, the spotted eagle ray from same brand. Original:

Customized:
narinari1.jpg

Original underside:

Customized underside:
narinari2.jpg

Upgraded: paintjob, the typical "duck bill" nose that was missing in the figure, much longer whip tail, corrected position and shape of the gills, added nostrils.

Hey @Isidro, may I ask why did you use to resculpt the nose and tail ad I would like to sculpt a dorsal fin for the mojo eagle ray

Isidro

I'm not very sure of what do you mean. Are you asking why I resculpted it?

Nope I meant what did you use to sculpt it

Isidro

Oh, so, the same paste that I use for homemade models: wePAM

Do you ovenheat it?

Isidro

No, WePAM is an air drying paste, I acquired it together with Fimo Air precisely because then I could customize finished figures from brands, a think that I can't do with oven-backed paste such as SuperSculpey
