Thanks for posting the photos, brontodocus, of the green turtle paper model.
I agree with you that the texture looks quite convincing. Wonderful work.

From a distance you'd never know this was a paper model! Very nice!  8)

Many thanks, stemturtle & Adam! :) It was easier to assemble than it looks, the entire model consists of only eight parts. For several years it was used as a decoration for our bathroom door ("Das Badezimmer" means "the bathroom"). ;D

There's also a pretty nice freely available cardboard model of a Green Turtle at Canon Creative Park, I guess it will be around 200 mm carapace length and consists of 20 parts: http://cp.c-ij.com/en/contents/3157/green-sea-turtle/index.html

Walk-around of the Papo Marine Life 56022 Leatherback Turtle, Dermochelys coriacea (Vandelli, 1761). Length of the carapace is 68 mm in direct line (or 72 mm along the curve), corresponding to a scale between approx. 1:15 and 1:35 for a mature individual (recorded carapace lengths between approx. 1.0 and 2.56 m).
The human figures are approx. 1:35 scale (paleontologist from the Tamiya Dinosaur Diorama injection model kits), 1:32 - 1:35 (diver from Safari Ltd Coral Reef Toob), and approx. 1:22.5 - 1:24 (Safari Ltd Freddie the Free Diver), respectively. Although currently still decreasing globally, conservation efforts have apparently begun to pay off and IUCN expects a world wide population increase of over 100% by 2040. As a consequence, in 2013 IUCN downgraded the Leatherback Turtle from "Endangered" (1986-1996) and "Critically Endangered" (2000) to "Vulnerable".

great figure
I hadn't heard of the downgrade, it feels a bit premature to me

A new hatchling

Yellow-margined box turtle, Cuora flavomarginata (Kaiyodo Capsule Q Museum, Animatales # 299)
Height about 1 5/8 inches or 4 cm.

The Asian hatchling is shown with two Minnesota species, snapper and softshell.
These two are sculptures, rather than toys, by the Pennsylvania artist Tom McFarland.
The scale is slightly different, but they have been my friends since 1992. The new model is nicely done.

Common snapping turtle, Chelydra serpentina (McFarland)

Eastern spiny softshell turtle, Apalone spinifera (McFarland)

There are other examples of hatchlings. Your photos are invited.

 :D Cute!!
I must say the box turtle hatchling is my favourite figure of Kaiyodo's new CapsuleQ set. It's extremely detailed.

brontodocus

Indeed it is! :) Although I have to say I like those hatchlings by McFarland even more. 8)

Postsaurischian, I find the pose convincing, like an old mossback. The detail rivals the exquisite 2003 figure, Animatales series 7, # 176 (photo below). Both are excellent.

It's wonderful to add a new figure of a side-necked turtle.
This brings our tally of different species to 7 pleurodires.

One of a set of 5 hatchling turtles, good luck charm and pouch.
