less cartoony? the hand-drawn sketch in the lower image looks even more cartoony than Safari's rendition  8)

Yeah the original sketch of the Jersey Devil is atrocious. Perhaps SafariLtd's could've had hooves for its forelimbs but SafariLtd's is definitely much better.

Yes, I suppose you're correct since it is an actual illustration.  ::)

Yeah, I like the sketch version. It was published in the Philadelphia Bulletin after a wave of sightings in 1909. It's basically THE image of the Jersey Devil. It's shown in just about every piece of media concerning it. It is atrocious, but in a good way. What I like about it is that it presents the creature as more animal than monster. Versus Safari's toy I prefer the neutral expression on the face vs. Safari's snarl. I also prefer the hooved forelimbs and slender tail. But Safari's is a pretty close approximation and will appeal to children more than a copy of a 100+ year old newspaper illustration. I prefer the cryptid toys to lean more naturalistic, which is why I adore the Safari sasquatch but hate the Safari yeti.

EDIT: Looking at it again, the head reminds me of the deer head in Evil Dead II. That adds some appeal.

The only version of the Jersey Devil I'll accept is the version from What We Do in the Shadows.

But Safari doesn't have the courage. CollectA might  ;D

You could make some...modifications.

NSD Bashe

That's pretty cool actually.  Honestly I was obsessed with cryptids for a while...

It would definitely be scarier...

I just purchased some birthday presents for my kiddo today and when I got to checkout the prices were massively reduced. Apparently Safari is having a 30% off sale until the 14th. Great timing! Don't bother with the 10% welcome discount tho; can't double dip.

Safari's 2024 catalogue is out and on the cover there is a White Stork! Perhaps that will an upcoming announcement?

Interesting there's no base.
I couldn't care less about another white stork but it could be a good repaint opportunity

BlueKrono

Would make sense for them to do a larger scale of an animal from their European Toob. That's pretty standard M.O. for Safari.

Coincidentally I just saw a white egret over the weekend.  First time I ever got a picture of one too

JimoAi

will the catalogue revealed some unrevealed items? weird there's no pdf catalogue atm

While in the past many TOOB figures were scaled down versions of standard sized figures, it's far more common practice since I'd say 2017 or so to use completely separate sculpts for TOOBs and standard or large size figures.

Oh I don't have any doubt it will be an original sculpt. I meant more for species choice. I love my standard size Silky Shark I just got last week, first hinted at in the Pelagic Toob.

I've just seen the Safari white stork and I like it a lot!  Schleich has released some nice ones, but they weren't for me.  This new Safari version on the other hand looks like just what I need!  It appears to have a small base between its toes, which looks like it will be simple for me to remove.
