Thanks Shane; I'll update the first post with pics per our standard format (unless others can get to it, first).

@AnimalToyForum - now that we have Safari's 2024 announcements (at least some), I will start on the next banner :-)

NSD Bashe

That Mahi-mahi really is an incredible creature

SerAndrew

Nothing for me, despite the bearded vulture was a wished species, I don't like this rendition at all.
For osprey, I'll keep my customized old Schleich.
No interest in the rest, the first dino looks weird and the mahi-mahi is quite good.

Gwangi

As I suspected, the mahi-mahi, osprey, and vulture are the standouts for me this year. Can't wait to get them!

MudpupWaterdog

I'm definitely getting the mahi mahi, very excited about that one.

I may get the osprey. For prehistorics, I have really slowed on dinosaurs but I like the Megalosaurus so that one's on the maybe list too. I also may just grab the adolescent lion to represent an American lion for my Cenozoic mammals shelf, but I'd have to see it in person first.

Glad to have some Safari reveals for 2024!

doggoswoofwoof

100% getting the fox kit, bearded vulture, and the male lion. Especially because the latter looks like a cave lion. Will probably also get the Osprey and the Nanuqsaurus. If I choose to get the latter it will be my first purchase of a dinosaur that wasn't secondhand.

EpicRaptorMan

Uh oh the Mahi mahi is part of the IC line.

I don't mind it. The feet do look a tad goofy though.

bmathison1972

I am sticking with my five planned: Osprey, Bearded Vulture, Saltasaurus, Austroraptor, Megalosaurus!

Still undecided on the dog; I think if I ever get a Pomeranian, I want it to look like the 'classic' form.

Thank you EpicRaptorMan (or whoever added the images)!

Saarlooswolfhound

I love them all.  8) Thanks Shane!

SerAndrew

Already said it, but so sad that the bearded is no satisfactory for me, it was an indeed desired species...

Shane

It might be more constructive if you explained what you didn't like about it, instead of just repeatedly saying you don't like it without explaining why.

Oh God, here we go again...

I simply don't like it. Haven't said there's anything wrong with it, I just said that it doesn't satisfy me for whatever (instictive) reason that I don't need to justify, as well a no one here saying how much they like it is asked to justify why for constructive reasons.

Maybe it's the too "squared" body (but if I say this you will start posting pictures of the real bird with "squared" bodies, so nevermind). Maybe it's the head, that doesn't portray the appearance of the bird (but then you'll say that it's difficult to capture that in a toy, that these are just toys). Or maybe is that I'm tired of open-winged birds (and you'll say that's a personal preference). And you may be right, but the figure simply doesn't satisfy me :)

Btw, repeatedly = twice, if I'm not wrong. And, if any, I just wanted to emphazise the really good choice of species by Safari and the personal frustration of not liking the figure.

Yes, repeatedly does mean "more than once", ie. twice.

I respect everyone's right to their opinion and nobody needs to like the figure. If something like the "squared body" bothers you, or some other aspect, that's fine. I don't know that I agree that the head doesn't capture the appearance of the bird, at least as good as it can in this size, but again, that's your preference. I don't have to agree with it but I appreciate that you articulated a reason for your dislike.

It's also fine that you just inherently don't feel that it appeals to you. It IS your personal preference if you don't like open-winged birds, and there's nothing wrong with that. Your preference is your preference.

I'm not here to get into an argument about the figure. What I'm saying is it's a bit frustrating to see someone feel a strong enough dislike for a figure that they feel the need to bring it up multiple times, but not offer a single reason why. Constructive criticism can lead to constructive discussion.

It's perfectly fine if the figure just doesn't appeal to you. But even explaining that is more constructive than just saying you're "so sad" that this is an unsatisfactory figure of a species you very much wanted to be made, without clarifying what it is that bothers you about it so much.

So thank you for explaining.

I also don't much like the vulture. I'll wait to see in-hand photos of it, but it just looks...off. The head and neck especially to me. I think I'll still pursue the Bullyland figure unless the safari turns out to look quite different in hand. The Osprey will be a definite purchase for me though!
Always looking for new species...

EpicRaptorMan

I concur. The bearded vulture does look a bit off, but not enough for me NOT to get... unless the in-hand photos turn out worse.

I'm just about to fond of the posture. Is what it is.

I like the bearded vulture a lot, I'm sure to get one. I think the figure captures all the major traits satisfactorily for the size and price.
One thing I do notice, comparing the figure to live photos, is the figure's black-and-grey wash is pretty uniform across the wings, whereas the real animals appear to have a more pronounced shift from dark to light between the feathers. The wash looks really good in application, though, and I imagine this will vary between individual figures (and live animals).

The osprey and mahi-mahi are the other standout must-buys for me. I have to admit the adolescent lion looks impressive too, though.
