@NSD Bashe - what's the green fish in the upper right? Species and manufacturer? Thanks. Looks neat.

NSD Bashe

Sadly I don't have much info on it, all I know is that it's a resin triggerfish made in China, no brand was listed and it has no identifying marks.  Coloration wise I would say it's meant to resemble a queen triggerfish (Balistes vetula)

thanks. yes the color does look like B. vetula, even if the shape is off.

EpicRaptorMan

I'd love to get that longhorn cowfish if it weren't for the assembly process.

NSD Bashe

Actually that part wasn't bad at all, although mine came mostly pre-assembled aside from the fins which were easy enough to put in.  But the pieces fit together way easier than some of those deep sea ones like the barreleye or oarfish, this one gave me no fight at all and also stays together fairly well.

Quote from: JimoAi on July 08, 2023, 03:47:57 PMmy latest haul:

Firstly, figures I've gotten at my local Bandai store: the entire sharks set with duplicates not shown here, tried the salamander gacha and got home with 3 Giant salamanders and one axolotl. The giant salamander reminds me of Koolasuchus in the body proportions. A small Japan haul in the Kaiyodo Swell shark egg and a Kaiyodo clownfish. Lastly, my third Papo blue whale which I've tried to just sprinkle grey mottled pattering as I am terrible at repainting the entire figure

I thought there were only four different sharks in the Bandai set?! I have never seen the brown variant of the bamboo shark; is that a rare chase figure? And if so, any indication if it's supposed to be the adult or supposed to instead represent a separate species?

It's a repaint done by me

I don't normally post in this thread but I had to share the 23" AAA dolphin that arrived today. It's nightmarish and I love it. Expect a review of it on the blog in the coming days or weeks.

Haha, glad somebody picked that up. The price wasn't bad.

I wouldn't have paid more than that for it. lol

I think its a decent sculpt that the paintwork makes it look... unsettling. Truly thats the best word. But I am glad such an oddball AAA model found a home to be greatly appreciated in!

SafariLtd Dodo & Yowie Vine snake are acquired.

bmathison1972

OK, I went ahead and got the new Yowies what represented new and interesting species for me, even if as babies. Found what I needed on eBay:

My latest haul:

Firstly, I have acquired wave 1 of the Spongebob super 7 ultimates figures and these are amongst the best figures of the characters. Wave one has Sandy and SpongeBob with his snail Gary and a generic Jellyfish. Thanks to this line, it has made me want to collect Life size figures of Marine life as the characters are probably within the 1:1 scale range and also, when will we get a proper sea sponge figure and it would be amusing if I can do a SpongeBob blog post on April fools

next up, are 2 blue ringed octopus figures: the toy spirits one which I keep forgetting to show and the Kaiyodo blue lined octopus. The toy spirits one is okay at best and doesn't look too good and definitely pales in comparison to my other cephalopods but we will talk more about it in the blog review. The Kaiyodo one I got to scale with Spongebob and friends and I have to say it's fantastic but it was expensive for me to get a hold of.

Lastly, I have repainted my Papo narwhal to look more in line to the pictures of real narwhals. The original figure had so much potential, especially with how good the sculpt is but the black main body and white tusk really detract from the overall figure whilst the Kaiyodo and safari had better paint jobs but the Safari is a little too large and speckling can use more work and the Kaiyodo is too small. However, both figures were of great help in referencing the paint scheme for the repaint and that led me to acquiring the best narwhal figure until another company or Papo makes and or repaints it!

Today I got the Safari GGO. I also got both the Australian Continent TOOB and European Animals TOOB.

The European TOOB was for the Wels catfish, European eel, and Eurasian sparrowhawk.

I only got the Australian TOOB because I needed a minimum of $25, so I thought I'd get it for the weta. But, looking at the figures in-hand, the tuatara will replace my Kaiyodo Dinotales tuatara!

It's that much better? I'm reluctant to buy that toob since nothing is truly my wheelhouse... but the Tuatara has been tempting.
Not that I'll be ordering any time soon. I want everything at once!

I've acquired several new figures lately and I've been a bit slow about showing them: Orca (Safari Ltd), Bottlenose dolphin (Safari Ltd/MBA), Macrauchenia (Safari Ltd; picked it up yesterday at the Waco Mammoth National Monument), European brown long-eared bat (Papo), Red deer stag (Papo), Indian elephant bull (Papo), Hippopotamus cow (Papo), and Dromedary camel (Papo). Was very happy to finally find the hippo in an Ebay lot, which included the Indian elephant and camel. There were others in the lot that I will probably post in a for sale thread, these included a Papo giraffe with calf (2008), Papo African elephant calf (2015), and a Papo hippo calf (2007). Still waiting on a Schleich jaguar (2006) to arrive, as well as a 3D-print of a Smilodon by labradoritewolf, that I will probably designate as S. fatalis.
