Canada Goose (Wild Animals by Papo)

If you had to name the most fearless and ferocious bird in the world, which one would you choose? The great horned owl, which regularly preys on hawks and other owls larger than itself? The harpy eagle, which boasts the biggest talons of any bird of prey and can carry off a 15-pound sloth?

Anglerfish (Sealife by CollectA)

No other sea creatures are associated as much with the darkest depths than anglerfish. These predatory fish come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes but can all be identified by their bioluminescent appendages and enormous mouths lined with frightful fangs! I’ve been a fan of anglerfish since first reading about them as a child and thus I find it perplexing how they seldom seem to show up in toy form.

Arabian Mare, Liver Chestnut (Horse Country by CollectA)

5 (5 votes)

Review and images by Harecraft Horses; edited by bmathison1972

When the promotional pictures of this stunning mare from CollectA came out, I was really concerned they might be a ‘too good to be true’ thing, showing a one-off custom artist’s proof paintjob, and then the factory models would be plain and lacking in comparison.

African Bush Elephant, 2022 (Wildlife by CollectA)

4.9 (18 votes)

Review and images by Suspsy; edited by bmathison1972

The African bush or savannah elephant (Loxodonta africana) is the biggest of all three extant elephant species and the biggest of all extant land animals. An average bull stands 3.2 metres (10.5 feet) tall at the shoulder and weighs around 6.6 tons, but the record specimen was around 3.9 metres tall and 10.5 tons in weight.

Hanoverian Stallion, Dappled Grey (Horse Country by CollectA)

Review and images by Harecraft Horses; edited by bmathison1972

This year CollectA have treated horse collectors to several re-releases in a new paintjob. Unlike wildlife collectors, model horse enthusiasts tend not to mind this at all – so many breeds come in more than one colour, and the variation is great for building an extensive herd.

Tiger Salamander (Wild Republic by K&M International)

Eastern tiger salamander, Ambystoma tigrinum (K&M). Length is 10.5 inches or 27 cm.

This figure is made of soft rubber. The paint did not hold up well to my granddaughter’s play, so I touched-up the green spots.

Appaloosa Stallion, Blue Roan (Horse Country by CollectA)

This is, as I’m sure all CollectA horse fans will recognise, an older mould re-released in a brand new colour for 2022.

Here he is alongside two of the older releases on the mould; the original Black Appaloosa Stallion from 2010, and the Buckskin Appaloosa (sometimes listed as Light Brown Appaloosa Stallion) from 2021.

Collared Lizard (Conservation Critters by Wildlife Artists, Inc.)

4.3 (4 votes)

Review and images by Febrogon; edited by bmathison1972

Dogs, cats, and teddy bears tend to be the general preference for people wanting a stuffed animal; but I’m the sort of person who would rather cuddle a giant squid or lizard if given the chance. Naturally, good plush toys of creatures like reptiles are relatively less common, so I couldn’t help my attention being grabbed by a very nice-looking collared lizard on the shelf of the gift shop while visiting the Zion National Park last year.

Yakutian Stallion, Grey (Horse Country by CollectA)

CollectA’s new horses for 2022 are being sent out to stockists in two batches, some breeds now and the rest due in December (although of course these timings will vary by country – there’s always a delay while British collectors wait for the new figures to be shipped over, while the US and mainland Europe are buying them already).

Ring-tailed Lemur (Wild Safari Wildlife by Safari Ltd.)

4.7 (6 votes)

Review and images by Suspsy; edited by bmathison1972

Lemurs are primates endemic to the island of Madagascar. Although superficially similar to monkeys, they have evolved independently from them and can easily be distinguished by their enormous eyes and pointed muzzles. Of the 100 species described, the most famous and popular one of all is probably the ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta).

Kidako Moray (Enoshima Aquarium 3D Atlas Anima Series 2 by Kaiyodo)

The Kidako moray (Gymnothorax kidako) is a species of moray eel inhabiting coral reefs in subtropical and tropical seas around western to central Ocean Pacific area from Taiwan to Polynesia, including Hawaii, and from south Japan and Korea to New Caledonia.

Sharks of the World Box Set (Colorata)

3.5 (6 votes)

Review and images by JimoAi; edited by bmathison1972

Happy Shark Week to everyone who loves sharks! This is the time of year where TV programs go out of their way to showcase shark-based programs, most notably Discovery Channel and National Geographic. These programs help open the doors to knowledge on these animals and help the general public understand, instead of fear, these misunderstood creatures, although some programs may over sensationalize rather than give true facts.
