.......................................does this mean I win? ^-^
Well, sort of... You know, it was quite tricky because I really thought you had posted one of the newer, obscure Varanus species... but there's of course a family of neotropical lizards, the Teiidae, with many species resembling lacertids and varanids... and especially the False Monitor, Callopistes flavipunctatus! >:D D'oh, that took me really long! :-[ ;D

Ah, you got it!  ;D  I have the genus name as Tejovaranus, but I suspect they're the same thing. :)

brontodocus

Oh, sorry, I'm a little late... :-[

Yes, Tejovaranus flavipunctatus is apparently a synonym. :)

Okay, hope this one isn't too easy... :)

Varanus

Varanus

Okay...maybe this will help:

brontodocus

Yes, it does... phew, I knew it's a tyrannid which makes it really hard... how many species are there, like 400+? :P ;D But I think I've got it now: That would be Nutting's Flycatcher, Myiarchus nuttingi? :)

Ding ding ding!  You are correct! ;D

brontodocus

Phew, not easy to find another one that is not too easy but still identifiable... took me a while to decide the next one. But here it is:

Varanus

I'm terrible at classifying plankton, but is that the predatory water flea Leptodora kindtii?

brontodocus

Yes, that's absolutely correct! :) Well, I couldn't take one that would be impossible to distinguish from related species when you have just a photo but I know many people would have never seen this one before (even if it's so huge for a cladoceran and occurs both in North America and Europe).

Varanus

Varanus

Okay, here's a few hints:

1. It's a colubrid
2. It's genus is monotypic
3. It's native to southeast asia
4. It's species name sounds like an alcoholic beverage :o

That was tough!
Gonyophis margaritatus!

Now, my turn :)
