I believe that's one of my favorite geckos, the Northern Spiny-tailed Gecko (Strophurus ciliaris).   Seeing as the spines on the tail are mostly orange, it appears to be S. c. ciliaris.

Well, sort of... You know, it was quite tricky because I really thought you had posted one of the newer, obscure Varanus species... but there's of course a family of neotropical lizards, the Teiidae, with many species resembling lacertids and varanids... and especially the False Monitor, Callopistes flavipunctatus! D'oh, that took me really long!
