I am not an expert in probiscidians, but I am a firm believer that your collection can be what you need it to be. :)

This model is sculpted to have a covering of short hair, but if you need it to resemble a close relative like the Columbian mammoth then I don't see why not. Just as long as you realize its intention was to represent a steppe mammoth to avoid confusion in discussion. :D

New additions! I got to travel for my birthday and drive to visit my siblings' homes and families. It was wonderful to return to my old "stomping grounds" and very melancholic at the same time... Anyway, the good news is that I spoilt myself at toy stores when passing through big cities! A few ended up being busts but I think I made a decent haul and it cheeres my up after my bad news the week before.

I was on the proverbial (pasture) fence for a long time on the CollectA herefords. I still am not a great fan of the bull; he has a very small head to my eye, at least compared the bulls I knew as a child on my grandfather's farm. But obviously... I gave in.

These are technically old news... Toy many cats and an unknown dog set. Sadly mine came in rather poor condition (quite a few scratches and rubs). Not all the dog breeds are very well sculpted, but mostly I got it for the poodle, shar pei, schnauzer, and american Bully. The cats are much nicer.

FINALLY found the Mojo new wolf, and caved on the "new" CollectA. At this store for the bison, all the others had horns broken off so... beware some fragility!

Lastly, I indulged in some prehistorics and then came across an ebay find of k&m dolphins. These arent on TAW though... any ideas what set they are?

JimoAi

is that the elusive Colorata Mekong catfish?!

New stuff! New Toymany sets (mini walkarounds coming), the TNG elasmotherium finally came!(only missing the smilodon now), I finally found the last Club Earth/WingMau frog to complete my set!, and a random lot on ebay netted some interesting chinamals and AAA and the like.

Then, in a stroke of good fortune... I got seduced into PNSO awhile back, and my compromise for myself was to focus on their smaller/cheaper models (like I do stablemates for Breyer nowadays). I first got most of the unique marine and flying reptiles and then the feathered dinos. I wanted to get the rest but felt I had to go on slowly to avoid bankruptcy. ;) Recently a member on DTF had a deal I couldn't refuse! He got the entire PNSO mini dino set for only a handful of models. I am only missing 2 now, the maomao which I can buy on its own, and one of the flying reptiles I will be patient to buy (the model was the reason he got the 200$ set, its retired and hard to find).

Some of them are adorable babies, many of them are just mini adults. There are some flaws but overall, this is stunning detail and paintwork for such miniscule figures!

bmathison1972

That Toymany koala set is very tempting, especially since they come off of the branches. And they seem to be in good size with other standard figures.

I will post a walkaround and comparison topic this weekend (hopefully). :) Those are their best models yet!

Goodness, it has been a long week. I caught covid for the first time and started to have symptoms Monday night. Its not been the worst thing, I seem to have avoided the worst of the symptoms. Its been a really terrible cold with a few flu like symptoms (luckily not nausea or vomiting). But it did make me go delirious for a few days and I lost track of everything else.  :geek:  After 5 days I seem to be edging towards recovery but I am still really tired. Despite that, I did get to take my boys outside for a short while and photograph my new models from the last weeks. Here goes.

First off, a wonderful birthday gift from an STS friend. The male VW mountain gorilla for my female. Now I just need to find the baby and the family is complete.

Then I bought a small lot from an STS forum friend off ebay! The Bully salmon, a pack of 6 WM cats (2 persians, 2 scottish folds, 2 American curls) and the SSS Tuatara. She was also kind enough to include a small akita(?) cartoon dog that is too cute!

From my new STS friend I bought the Bully Arizonasaurus, Albert Heijn teenie thylacine, ROM wixwaxia, Colorata dugong and sea lion, Nayab otter civet, Kenner puffer, a variant of the K&M tube dingo etc. All lovely models and I love them.

Lastly some of my own finds. I snagged the Schleich Antarctic set on sale. The new husky is a great sculpt but I am not convinced it pairs well with the new color of the old mould. I painted that mould into a red husky, so now I have to decide if I want to redo it into the last color pattern I would like or to keep my dark red custom and this lighter version. The chick is lovely, I would like to buy a whole dozen for photography. ;)

Lastly, between a couple of different lots I found gems and weird stuff.    Nayab(?) pronghorns in a large and small size! Nayab dingo sculpt as an akita(?) that I have been looking for for some time! And a couple of other odds and ends I may or may not keep.

Phew! I think that's enough for now... I have some other stuff coming but it hasn't arrived yet. I will share when I can!

BlueKrono

@Saarlooswolfhound That Arizonasaurus has long been a favorite of mine. And I'm glad to hear you're on the upswing!
I like turtles.

These are additions over the last month or so (busy with work, came down with Covid, now I am trying to pack up and help my Mom move...) Hopefully the craziness subsides soon. :D

Along with the VW male gorilla, a close STS friend was SO kind to send the WR red wolf, cute little dachshund in front, and an adorable Busch Gardens tiger cub ornament. At Fred Meyer I found the Schleich polar bear cubs and narwhal set for cheap! The narwhal is kind of silly with its smile but I like the new cub. I found the AAA roaring grizzly at a local thrift store (a bit worse for wear). The Hunter Dan Beatty Buck off ebay. The others were mixed ebay finds from various lots of figures. A Nayab? spitz dog, K&M (? I think I remember right...) sitting tiger, an unknown dog, indian rhino, Safari shepherd, some small breyer mini whinnies etc. The best of all though is a new AAA white rhino; a true unicorn as the only other known models are of Asian species!

As always, I have a few more to show off... eventually. ;)

Saarlooswolfhound

My Safari order came. MBA models I am sure are retiring and the dinosaurs confirmed to be retiring from a source on DTF. I also snagged the okapi, estemmenosuchus, and arctic fox.

BlueKrono

I feel like I'm looking at the prehistoric world through yellow-tinted glasses.
I like turtles.

Saarlooswolfhound

Indeed! Lots of yellow, tan, and orange colored dinos in Safari's range- well I guess not anymore since most of those are retiring...

Augh! So much to talk about! But most excitingly, my collection has FINALLY been moved to a place of accessibility and I am THRILLED. A little over a year ago when I moved my huge collection went from a large display room to being in storage. For the last year it has been in a loft type of area that was difficult to keep organized and get stuff out of. That put projects on hold or at least drastically slowed (like renovating my website). Now it has been moved and I hope to get back to it all and get back up to speed!

Finally got my Toymany sharks and I adore them! some appendages need to be adjusted from their trip but these are really nice models, I thought I liked them from others' photos but boy they are handsome sculpts. Some paint mistakes on 2 of mine but otherwise the application is really well done too!

Then after "reading" (listening to audiobooks) on my commute to work I have been on a turn for nonfiction dinosaur books. This in turn got me appreciating our history of understanding prehistory and knowing what we do now. I came across this listing a while ago (years?) on ebay for a Crystal Palace inspired iguanodon. The maker wasn't making any more sadly. Then coincidently they just picked it up again and I snagged one right up! From a 3D printing artist called Relics of Gaia if I remember correctly. Its a lovely and unique piece for my ranks now.

With my only other iguanodon model.

As I was fiddling around with my newly accessible collection space; I took some photos of the weird prehistorics in my collection. A year ago, I had a mere small fraction of these. This section of "prehistoric oddities" has grown a lot!

BlueKrono

I think I found her: relics_of_gaia on eBay. Got a pretty interesting Scutosaurus for any Permian fans.
I like turtles.

Saarlooswolfhound

Yes! They are based in Hungary; my item had rather cheap shipping and was packed well if anyone looks in to purchasing from them. I had to wait a week before my item shipped, but it was explained that they were "adding finishing details" to the product (painting and sealing it I presume).

All the Scutosaurus on eBay are still >$90 but thanks to these recent posts I checked eBay and just secured the Bullyland Procynosuchus and Desmatosuchus! Thanks!

Saarlooswolfhound

Oh congrats Blaine! Glad I could be "of help"; I still need lots of Bully prehistorics and the desmatosuchus is one. I just love all the strange "pre-dino" weirdos!
