Only if considering that is the North American black widow, the most famous species. Many of the dozens of other species of black widows have red (or brown or white) marks in the upperside of abdomen, including the two natives of my country :D

True, but Advicot and I live in a country with no native black widow species, so, due to its (undeserved) notoriety worldwide, pretty much all we recognise is the North American species ^-^

I have 5 species of Latrodectus in toy form and only two are North American :-). But most figures are the eastern US L. mactans.

I can understand CollectA repainting their wolves, but how very odd that they would repaint one tapir species as another one.

Advicot

To cut costs I suppose but I'm still unhappy with this move.  >:(

They would have been far better off had they repainted their black bear as a Kermode/spirit bear, or their American alligator as a leucistic one. Either of those would have been cool.

I'm keen to see what the sloth, mountain gorilla, and Komodo dragon are like.

FlaffyRaptors

Horses ruin everything.
I was really looking forward to a Malayan Tapir, why is CollectA being lazy and repainting their Baird's.

Advicot

"They would have been far better off had they repainted their black bear as a Kermode/spirit bear, or their American alligator as a leucistic one." I agree, but the spirit bear and white alligator etc. aren't different species. Compared to the tapirs.  :)

Well aware of it. That was my point. Another good and cheap option: recolour the zebra as a quagga.

On that note, I also think CollectA missed an opportunity when they repainted their two grey wolves for 2019. I think it would have been way nice had they repainted one in white and the other in black.

Yeah, I found that odd as well, they don't even really look the same.

But, is it simply a repaint? The pose is similar but there are subtle differences. Perhaps they took the Baird's tapir and made necessary modifications to the sculpt and then repainted.

It's hard to say, probably won't be able to tell for sure until somebody posts comparison images of the two. Back in 2015, CollectA was accused by some people over on the DTF of simply retooling their Xenoceratops toy for the new Nasutoceratops and Medusaceratops. Even when the president of CollectA stated for the record that they weren't retools, it wasn't enough to satisfy the accusers. They certainly did clam up once the toys were released and it became obvious that CollectA had been telling the truth!

So who knows, perhaps we've been overreacting here?

Advicot

I've recently messaged CollectA to find out if it is a repaint and why they decided to do this.  :)

They all look great nonetheless but I was hoping for more prehistoric mammals. I'm looking forward to get that Spider and the Red Poodle, I hope this is not it for 2020 though  :D

Welcome HobbyTiger. No this is not the complete list. The complete list is out, but a few images are revealed every Friday. I can tell you there will not be prehistoric mammals this year...

Advicot

Are there any more pictures on the web? My search engine is just coming up with either 2019 models or their figures in general.  ???

Thanks!

Ah that is disappointing. Well then I guess we'll have to wait till 2021 then  :-\

Advicot

They do have quite a decent range of prehistoric mammals. Maybe they'll release more when they retire some others. Who knows?  :)

There is a Cenozoic beast coming out in 2020, just not a mammal.

Upon closer inspection, it is indeed slightly different from the Baird's. Feels like a retool to me.
For some reason it just doesn't look like a Malayan Tapir, especially in the proportions.

Isidro

Different? In what??????? There are two differences: the paintjob, and that in the belly will be stamped "Malayan tapir" instead "Baird's tapir".  There is zero more differences than that.

Nvm, I thought they had at least changed the pose a bit.
