Hanoverian Stallion, Dappled Grey (Horse Country by CollectA)

4.8 (4 votes)

Review and images by Harecraft Horses; edited by bmathison1972

This year CollectA have treated horse collectors to several re-releases in a new paintjob. Unlike wildlife collectors, model horse enthusiasts tend not to mind this at all – so many breeds come in more than one colour, and the variation is great for building an extensive herd.

Japanese Animals (Colorata)

4 (4 votes)

Well, here we are. I’ve reached a big milestone, my 50th review! I want to thank everyone who read, rated and commented on my reviews to this point. I also want to thank bmathison1972 for editing my work. For this milestone, I wanted to cover something well made and on the more expensive side, so I chose the Japanese Animals set by Colorata.

The Konik is a breed of pony (Equus ferus caballus) native to Poland. It is a solid and sturdy beast with a low set neck, a relatively short height of slightly over 13 hands (140 cm), and a weight of 350-400 kg (770-880 lbs).

Before I begin the review, I would like to kindly thank our friends at Happy Hen Toys for who provided me with this review sample (my first!) for the Blog! If you end up being interested in this figure, you can certainly find it on their website or wherever Schleich toys are sold.

Much better known as the Orlov Trotter, named after their developer Count Alexei Orlov, this is a famous breed but not a common one outside its native homeland, and it’s fairly rare to see in model form, too. With nothing yet from Breyer, the market leader in the model horse world, we have to turn to the more toy-type brands : Mojo Fun have released their Orlov Trotter sculpt in two different shades of grey, and now CollectA bring us a brand new one.

Przewalski’s Horse (Horse Country by CollectA)

4.8 (5 votes)

Since its release in 2013 I’ve been eyeballing the CollectA Przewalski’s horse (pronounced shuh-VAL-skee and also known as the takhi) for my collection, even though I didn’t really collect extant animals at the time. What I was collecting were dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, and recently extinct animals too. So why the interest in this horse?

Shire Stallion (Early Learning Centre)

3 (2 votes)

When it comes to animals known for being strong work animals, helping humans pull heavy equipment and working in fields, it is the horse (Equus ferus caballus). The largest and strongest breed of these is the Shire horse, a breed that holds the title of largest and tallest horse, the biggest on record being over seven foot tall.

Thoroughbred, pair (Noah’s Pals by Caboodle! Toys LLC)

One of the large mammals that survived the Ice Age is the horse (Equus ferus). As a result of domestication by humans and travelling to Asia, it survived the extinctions in North America, and are now widespread across the globe, helping humans travel across tough terrain and long distances.

CollectA’s new horses for 2022 are being sent out to stockists in two batches, some breeds now and the rest due in December (although of course these timings will vary by country – there’s always a delay while British collectors wait for the new figures to be shipped over, while the US and mainland Europe are buying them already).
