Masked Lapwing (Yowies Series 3 by Cadbury)

The wetlands of the world are great places to witness a variety of life. Birds are common here, wading and collecting food among the silt and water. This review will look at one from the southern hemisphere, the Masked Lapwing (Vanellus miles), a common animal in New Zealand and Australia, adaptable and able to live in open fields, wetlands and even arid environments. Here, we see an example by Yowies. Let’s see!

There are a few varieties of Masked Lapwing, but this is a fairly simple model, so it is hard to say which subspecies it is. Nonetheless, the key features are all here, from the long legs for wading to the yellow bill and wattle. Really nice representation, as the colours fit too. Brilliant.

The pose is a simple standing pose, showing the anatomy of this species well. The legs and head have a little back and forwards movement, but not enough to affect it’s pose. It is a decently sized bird model, measuring 1.6″ high and 2.2″ long, so a little large for most lines.

Small birds aren’t common in toylines, so I am glad Yowies made this model. It is the only example of this species in toy form, so there aren’t great options, but I do like what we got. It is long since discontinued, so eBay is your best bet, and I do think it is worth getting. It certainly doesn’t disappoint.
