Welcome back to the “Savanah Summer”! When it comes to carnivores in Africa, the feliforms are the more famous, be it the speedy cheetah, the stealthy leopard or the infamous hyenas. Most famous, and biggest, of all is, of course, the African Lion (Panthera leo), king of the….. Well, not jungle, as most will know lions aren’t found in jungles, preferring scrub, caves and, of course, wardrobes. Here, we see one lion example of the many made by AAA.
This is an example of the jumbo lion AAA made, and it’s easy to see why it is called that. This male measures a colossal 9.4″ long and 4.1″ high, a substantial figure, likely a centrepiece in most collections as opposed to simply being part of it.
The pose here is a rather fierce one, snarling, perhaps staring down a rival or an irritating cub. Whatever your imagination views it as really. It’s colouration is simple, but works well, with enough paint wash to make details like fur and veins pop, though not major enough to discern the subspecies of this lion.
While this is certainly not for the collector with small space, it will do nicely for toy boxes and among collectors of the truly large models. It is also long discontinued, so eBay is likely the best place to stalk this massive predator. It was certainly a highlight of my youth, and I dare say will entertain youngster all across the world. Now, enough cat napping, onwards with the “Savanah Summer”!
