Dropbears. The deadliest mammals in the outback, dropping down on unsuspecting prey!! This terrifying creature……. is not real, but it does make for a fun way to mess with people. The real animal is the laid back Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus), a eucalyptus eating marsupial in Australia. There are a few subspecies of this creature, with the Southern being the largest, found in South Australia and Victoria. These animals feature as a pair in the Noah’s pals line, with them being in the “Vulnerable”, limited 20,000. I fear that, if this was done today, it might be in “Endangered”, as numbers are dropping rapidly, especially during the recent wild fires that ravaged Australia. Let’s see how these figures came out!
Let’s start with the male, Keelan. This shows the darker fur colour that can be seen among southern koalas, a neat way to show the variety within the species. It’s a very neutral pose, just sitting comfortably on the ground, perfect for a koala. As a 1:24 scale model, it’s fairly small, measuring 1.3″ high and 0.9″, makes it nice and cute.
Next we have Krista, the female. She has the more familiar grey colouration seen in koalas, including the southern. This is a slightly more active pose, plodding along on all fours, looks quite sweet. She measures 1″ high and 1.5″ long, not bad, great if you are lacking space on a shelf. The sculpting is a bit better, feeling more fluffy than Keelan, appropriate for a koala.
I adore koalas, so was really happy to get a set featuring both sexes. There are quite a few koala models and, while not the best, certainly isn’t the worst either. As there are only 20,000 sets of these, they can be rare and worth grabbing when seen. I do think it is worth having. After all, who doesn’t love koalas?
