Indian peafowl (Pavo cristatus) are beautiful birds that hail from India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. On January 31, 1963, it was declared the national bird of India because of its rich religious and legendary involvement in Indian traditions. The males are known as “peacocks” and the females are known as “peahens.” The peacocks are famous for their eyespot plumage, which they fan out to attract mates.
This is the Indian peacock from Schleich’s Wild Life Asia & Australia collection, released in 2012 and unfortunately retired in 2017. He is approximately 4 x 14 x 12 cm. I am so lucky to own this rare figure, as it is somewhat hard to come by outside of eBay. He is strikingly beautiful, as he is standing in a pose with his plumage all fanned out.
He is a single piece, with no assembly required. He stands on a non-removable base depicting grass. When comparing him to other figures of his species, I believe that he is the most detailed and realistic. I also own the peacock made by Safari LTD, which is known for making highly realistic figures, but not even he can compare to this in terms of realism. His plumage is actually translucent, and they really took attention to detail with the back of him.
He is a child’s toy, as you can tell by the slight play wear.
