Picking subjects for the “Savanah Summer” can often be a tall order. I can often be sticking my neck out trying to pick the best of Africa’s finest. This time though, it’s been easy to choose: I am finally covering the Giraffe (Girrafa camelopardalis). The tallest animals on the planet, these graceful creatures can grow to 18.7 ft tall and are found across Africa. But all creatures start small, and here we see a calf, as made by Safari Ltd.
The accuracy of the figure is fantastic, the proportions are brilliant, not as long as an adult (especially the neck), but areas (like the hooves) showing off how large they will become. The hooves may be a little oversized, but still not bad.
The pose is simple, striding forwards, very nice, quite a gracile look. As to be expected, it’s a big baby, measuring 3.5″ high and 3.8″ wide, matching well with an adult of a larger size. The paint scheme is pretty nice, as you would expect from a giraffe, but not distinct enough for identifying the species.
This is a charming model, a great little figure to have for a toy box or even a collectors shelf. The detail is good, nice smooth feel, great for kids. There are a lot of giraffe models available, adult and young alike, but I would say this is a worthwhile choice. This model is still available to get, so if you see it, grab it. Now, time to stride out into the “Savanah Summer”!
