Carrying on with the “Savannah Summer”, I realised that what I should do is cover the big five, five large and rare mammals in Africa. This was originally a term used for big game hunting, as they these five were the hardest to get, but is now used in safaris, being the best to go and see. I have covered three of these, the lion, the elephant and, prior to this series, the leopard. Time to catch up with the final two members, starting with the African buffalo.
Specifically, what Schleich have created is the Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer caffer), a species found largely in South Africa. You can tell this by the shape of the horns and darker coloured pelt compared to the other subspecies. This sculpt is honestly spot on, having a perfectly bulky body and great fur work, making him (yes, it’s DEFINITELY a male!) an accurate depiction of the species.
The pose is nothing incredible, calmly standing and looking out, nothing to really write home about. It’s a good size, measuring 5″ long and 3″ high, working with a lot of lines.
Honestly, despite the dull pose, it’s a really good figure, top of the figures of this species (of which there are a fair few). It is a long discontinued figure, so eBay is gonna be your best chance for it, and I do recommend hunting it down. On with the “Savannah Summer”, and I will be covering the last of the big five very soon. Stay tuned!!!

I love bovids, and this is one of my favorite species! I have Safari’s version, but this is a nice hunk of figure, too!
