When it comes describing CollectA’s choice of species to produce, it starts to sound like a broken record. But true to their mission statement, they continue to mine the long list of unique and often obscure animals that no one had paid attention to and bring them up to the spotlight.

Saiga Antelope (Wildlife by CollectA)
As strong winds swept across the steppe, vast herds of grazing animals can be seen dotting the landscape. It would be easy to mistake the scene as something out of Africa. After all, rhinos, elephants, big cats, and antelopes can be seen in the distance. But this is not Africa, the vast landscape stretching before us is the Eurasian steppe during the last ice age.
African Wild Dog (Safari Ltd. and Mojö Fun)
Striped Hyena (Wildlife by CollectA)
The spotted hyena is one of the most well-known and popular animals today, thanks to its many appearance in nature documentaries as well as movies. It has become one of those iconic animals that almost everyone knows or at least can identify.
But the spotted hyena is not alone in its family, today there are actually four extant species of hyenas: the spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta), the brown hyena (Hyaena brunnea) the aardwolf (Proteles cristatus), and striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena).
African Lioness, with cub (Wild Animals by Papo)
No other extant animal captures the essence of the wild like the lion. It is without a doubt the most famous of the big cats and often referred to as “King of the Beasts”, “Lord of the Jungle” and so on.
The lion’s great strength and the male’s impressive appearance have made them popular and a staple of pop culture and the toy figure industry.
Grevy’s Zebra (Wildlife by CollectA)
In the animal world, vivid colors and intricate designs abound and easily catch our eyes. But one group of animals has managed to turn the simple black and white colors into one of the most recognizable and easily one of the most elegant design the: the zebras.
The zebra’s alternating black and white stripes is so iconic and distinctive, that they are one of the most popular and famous extant animals, in the wild and in captivity.
Okapi, adults and calves (CollectA & Bullyland)
From the rolling savanna, we now head eastwards and deep into the jungles of central Africa to meet one of its most elusive, beautiful, and mysterious animals, the okapi (Okapia johnstoni).
As you may have noticed that both of my forum and blog name is OkapiBoy, any guesses? When I first saw an okapi in person, it was more than a decade ago when I was in the Midwest visiting family.
Mountain Nyala (Wildlife by CollectA)
Review and photos by OkapiBoy
High in the mountain woodlands of Ethiopia lives one of the most distinctive and endangered of Africa’s large antelope. Here and nowhere else lives the mountain nyala (Tragelaphus buxtoni), a large and shy antelope that was first described in 1910. It is monotypic with no subspecies.
King Cheetah (Wildlife by CollectA)
Review and photos by Okapiboy
Its wildlife and wide-open spaces are one of the richest and most diverse in the world and may leave one with the impression that all is well. But like many places on earth, these wild landscapes are all under threat and tremendous pressure as human population continues to grow and expand.
Bongo Antelope (Wildlife by CollectA)
Review and photos by Okapiboy
The bongo antelope (Tragelaphus eurycerus) is one of the most beautiful, distinctive, and striking of all antelopes. It is also one of the most popular zoo animals.
Finally, a large figure of this species!
So it is puzzling that when it came to toy replica, the majority of today’s top companies haven’t produced one for the mass market.
Giant Sable Antelope (Wildlife by CollectA)
Babirusa: Three Little Pigs (Bestiari, CollectA, Safari Ltd.)
Review and photos by OkapiBoy
For today’s review, my fifth, I wanted to do something different. When I started my original review for CollectA’s Babirusa, it was inevitable that I ended up doing some comparison between the trio of figures I currently own. The review started to look diluted with my additional lengthy comments about the other two figures.
Ganges River Dolphin (Sealife by CollectA)
Review and photos by OkapiBoy
Before we leave Mainland Asia, I wanted to make one last detour and check out some of the largest and mightiest rivers in India and Asia. The Ganges, Indus, Yangtze, and Mekong are just some of the largest river systems that flows and crisscross the continent. Here, one would encounter one of the unlikeliest animal swimming around: dolphins.
Gaur Bull (Wildlife by Mojö Fun)

On our last review, we explored the deep and mysterious highland forest of the Annamites mountain range where we met one of its rarest inhabitant.Today, we will head down to the lowlands and forest edges to meet another bovine, this time a large one.Tropical rainforest are one of the most threatened ecosystem in the world, and animals that depends on them and call it home are also some of the most endangered. The rainforest of Southeast Asia in particular are hard hit by deforestation and booming human populations that continues to push what remains into smaller and fragmented patches.
Saola (Wildlife by CollectA)

Last time we explored the high Tibetan country and met one of its unique and charismatic inhabitant.Today, we travel down south of mainland Asia and head west towards the coast, leaving behind the harsh landscape. For my next review, I have decided to continue with the Asian theme and spotlight another animal from Asia.If you look at the map of mainland Asia, you will see a stretch of mountains that run north to south like a spine that divides the interior and the coast.
