Fennec Fox (Wild life Africa by Schleich)

Back to the “Savanah Summer”, and heading to north Africa to see one of the carnivores of Africa. While most will think of the big cats when it comes to carnivorans in Africa, be it Lions and Cheetahs and Leopards, oh my (I know, it’s not as catchy, but roll with it!) but the dogs have their teeth in that part of the world. The African Hunting dog has the greatest success rate in hunting in Africa, and the smallest dog is also successful there, the Fennec Fox (Vulpes zerda). These big eared foxes are perfect desert survivors, well adapted for this lifestyle. There are danger from people trying to keep them as exotic pets, where they should be left to their own devices. They also suffer from issues such as rabies, something to watch for. There are a handful of figures of these cuties, and here we see one from this year by Schleich.

This model is spot on to the real animal, with it’s big ears and gorgeous brown eyes, makes it really adorable!! The fur looks really good, having a great mix of the colours you would see on the actual animal, though may be a little too similar, mixing too well, not having the white stand out enough. Not terrible though.

The stance is very alert, ears high up and sniffing the air, perhaps sensing a larger predator around, or some other danger approaching. It is small, which makes sense for this little canid, measuring 2.5″ long and 1.8″ high, thanks to those mighty ears. Very nice.

This is a delight of a figure, sure to entice adult collectors and children alike. It is currently quite easy to find, both online and in shops, as it was released this year, and I do recommend picking it up. It is a gorgeous model of an incredible species, and it’s small size means it won’t break the bank either. Only a little time left for the “Savanah Summer”, so let’s enjoy it while it’s here!
