This is a thread to share photos of some of the creatures on display in the Nottingham Natural History Museum, UK, where I'm lucky enough to work.

Geoffrey the Giraffe:

George the Gorilla:

And I'll add more soon...

The museum also has a Facebook page that I'm slowly updating with pictures, so you can see more exhibits there:
https://www.facebook.com/nottingham.natural.history.museum  Oh yeah, and remember you can follow George on twitter @george_gorilla

Our designers are putting the finishing touches to a new mini-gallery about the importance of natural history collections. They also did some filming for an AV display, and uploaded it to youtube too. You can see part of the exhibit in the background. I've learned I'm not a natural in front of the camera! This is the best I could muster after several takes. Wooden as a log, I froze up like a weta in winter. Anyway, embarrassing as it is, at least you now know what your humble admin looks and sounds like :)

Another AV display features my colleagues and explores the art of taxidermy:

Nah, there's nothing embarrassing about it, actually I thought you looked and sounded quite confident. :-)

The taxidermied specimen restoration was really interesting :)

They came flying from far away, now I'm under their spell....

That one is now on display in the new gallery. It is a very popular object.

A new temporary exhibition is opening at the Nottingham Natural History Museum tomorrow. It explores how natural history specimens are conserved prior to going on display. The gallery will be open weekends from 29th March to 13th April 2014 (11.00 to 16.00), and natural history restorer, Chris Orgill, will be on hand 11.30 to 14.30 each day to demonstrate his methods. Drop by if you are in town. Here are some highlights - photographs taken while adding the finishing touches to the exhibition.

I bet you are one of the few museums to have a mounted microraptor!

AnimalToyForum

There's still a day left to vote for George the Gorilla as the most marvellous museum mascot.

It looks like George isn't going to be number one, but with your support he can still hold his head up high ;) Thanks!

Until I read about Adam working at the Nottingham Natural History Museum, I had no idea it even existed. The museum is only 2 hours from my home so I may visit in the near future.
Don't I take long uploading photos!

The museum is actually undergoing a major revamp of all public galleries. The museum will still be open but certain galleries will be closed while the work takes place over the next few years.
