Discussing the monster in the room

I can see a place for Safari's dragons and fairies and Schleich Eldrador, but when people are trying to have serious(?) conversations of the taxonomic status of X-men mutants, Transformers, and Bugs Bunny, it just goes to my concerns of this spiraling out of control too easily.

Because none of these interest me, at least from a collector's standpoint, I am going to take a backseat here.

But I will say, if this forum becomes dominated by Megatron, Mystique, and Freddy Kreuger, I will have to seriously reconsider my activity and involvement on this forum and the blog going forward.

This is what I worry about - alienating valued members who care about animal toys and not about monsters. That's why I think it should be its own separate blog, if the traffic warrants it.
I like turtles.

If the traffic warrants it, that's what'll happen. Don't worry @BlueKrono and @bmathison1972!

Thank you. And just to be clear, my comment wasn't a 'my way or the highway' threat, I am simply saying if this forum loses focus of where my personal interests lie as a member, it would probably diminish my interest and activity.

It won't happen that the forum becomes dominated by Megatron etc, so it's moot, but do you really mean you'd reconsider your activity on the Animal Toy Blog if it did?

I think we need clarification-- I understand the blog is to be a separate entity. Different site, different log in for reviewers.

The Forum is just the place to host related conversation within it's own board. Right now it's within the Animal Toy Forum unless it outgrows it

Outgrowing is my concern. Right now there is one board. But if the board has lots of threads and on a daily basis when I log in if the majority of the more recent threads (e.g., the top 15 most recent that are shown) have nothing to do with real animals and more to do with fictional creatures, yes I can see it affecting my activity here, as it, in my opinion, will dilute out the primary focus of the forum. Adam mentioned ignoring a board. I may chose to do that but if others don't then posts about new releases, new blog entries, etc. are going to get diluted out and not visible to them.

Anyway I don't have a crystal ball, so I have no idea what will happen. I am just going to sit back and watch for now. I am just thinking out loud of possible scenarios if the forum loses its primary focus.

If the monster discussion really takes off, I'll set up a Monster Toy Forum for it. I could do it now but there's no point in creating an entire forum for five or six people.

There has been a board for "other toys and collectables" on the Dinosaur Toy Forum for as long as I can remember. With lengthy threads devoted to kaiju and monster toys. That thread and it's board have never come close to dominating the forum. I don't think there's a need for concern.

I'm sure there are long standing dedicated forums for kaiju, Transformers, superheroes, Star Wars, and other toys. I don't ever see discussion about those hobbies becoming much of a thing in these parts.

This is my feeling, too. Obviously, with the launch of the Monster Toy Blog there will be a bump, but I don't expect it to outgrow the animal discussion in the long term, and if it does then I'll reconsider the setup.

EpicRaptorMan

The AnimalToyForum already only has like 5-6 regular people as it is though.

Crazy how we stretch to start a Monster Blog but don't even have a Horse Toy Blog/Forum which arguably would be stronger than both the Animal/Monster combined.
At this point there should just be a mass merger of the DTF, ATF, Monsters, & Mickey Mouse.

Horses are animals.

And trolls are monsters. :P

Not everything is about what will be most successful. If that was the case the DTB and ATB would have been converted to review sites for Star Wars and GI Joe many years ago. A "monster" section nicely round out the trifecta with a perfect place to put a lot of the adjacent figures that don't quite work with the existing setup.

It seems the point of my previous post went over your head. So I'll reiterate: the horse collector hobby, as a sub-division, is far more popular than wild animals or a handful of monsters.

Mickey Mouse isn't a monster.

Okaaay. If that's even true, I still have no idea what your actual point is, beyond "horses are popular". Sure, horses are popular, that's why so many have been reviewed and continue to be reviewed on the Animal Toy Blog alongside all the other wild and domestic animals there: https://animaltoyforum.com/blog/tag/domestic-horse/ And they are discussed here on the ATF, too.

So, horse toys already have a home on my network. Monster toys don't already have a home, so the new site is for them. Hardly controversial.

Exactly. I keep species-level stats for Blog reviews, and domestic horses are second with 21 reviews. Only the grey wolf has more with 25, and that includes domestic dogs and dingoes.

@bmathison1972 Ignoring a thread is an option, but not a very good one in my experience since it still shows up while perusing the Recent page. Apparently the solution to this is "hope it corrects itself in a future update maybe". If every other post on that page is about monsters I could see that annoying animal toy fans to the point that they wouldn't stop by the site as often.

suspsy

A horse toy blog frankly strikes me as tedious.
