Looks prehistoric - it's the sail-like crest ;)
I agree, like something out of the Silurian or Carboniferous. :)

Thanks, Helge & Jetoar! :) Only the SOMSO Fire Salamanders are better (but not by much) than the Tennessee Aquarium figure - but those are highly expensive casts for educational institutions.

Ana

Wonderful model! I have Bullyland one but this one looks even better :D I like this species, perhaps my favorite amphibian :D

Absolutely wonderful! Great figure of a fascinating animal! 8) Thank You for sharing :D

The epitome of salamander figure awesomeness!!! 8) And I'm typing that just a few seconds after I've received a certain DHL parcel... I haven't even opened it! :o ;D Give me a minute...

EDIT (a few minutes later after coming round): AAAAAH! :o.... (and still another few minutes later): Awesome! It's so much larger than expected and beautifully sculpted and painted, and even the matt finished, heavy resin base fits perfectly! I like it already more than any of my Study Room resins!!! ^-^

 :) Thanks for the comments.

We introduce the salamanders as a topic with the hynobiid salamanders.  Here is a new release, also shown below with related Japanese species.

Northeast salamander, Hynobius lichenatus (Kaiyodo), total length about 3 inches (7.5 cm)

Kaiyodo hynobiid salamanders:

Hakone (= Clawed) salamander, Onyhchodactylus japonicus (Takara Choco 008, 196a)
Clouded salamander, Hynobius nebulosus (Takara Choco 006, 162)
Odaigahara salamander, Hynobius bouengeri (Furuta Choco 04, 103)
Tohoku Sansho-uo (= Northeast) Salamander, Hynobius lichenatus (Capsule Q Museum, 005)

Hakone Sanshouuo (= Clawed) salamander, Onyhchodactylus japonicus (Colorata), total length 4 7/8 inches (12.3 cm)

Photos of color variants and other additions are welcome.

Those hynobiids are really lovely. Congrats for the new Hynobius lichenatus, stemturtle! :) My Colorata River Life Onychodactylus japonicus is apparently a little darker than yours (especially the head). And I have the ChocoQ Animatales 8 No. 196b O. japonicus:

OkapiBoy

Lovely collection. I wish I had more salamander figures :) All I have are two Japanese giant salamanders .

Your collection must be extensive, brontodocus.  Thanks for posting the photo of the red variant of the clawed salamander, and for the clue about the spelling of hynobiids.   :)

OkapiBoy, I appreciate your response.  Giant salamanders are awesome.   ^-^

Thanks, stemturtle! :) But it's not that extensive, I have 20 different figures of salamanders, representing 14 recognisable species. And not the painted Tennessee Aquarium Mudpuppy, only the Translucents one... :'( I've seen other people's salamander collection photos which were a lot more impressive!

Impressive collection of giant salamanders, postsaurischian.  You are lucky to have the big Kyoto Aquarium special figure.

The first time I saw one of these enchanting creatures was in 1970 at the Exotarium in Frankfurt am Main.  I wonder if it is still on exhibit.

postsaurischian

Thanks, stemturtle :).

We have a living one at the 'Vivarium' here in Karlsruhe. It's very huge and it was already there when I was a little boy.
