Wonderful model! I have one as well and its my favorite panda in my collection. I just think I should say that this panda was introduced in 2012, not 2010.

I fixed the Year. Thanks for letting me know

It makes a collector feel 'old' when he can recall the year each piece in the current catalog was introduced! I can now that the old deer are retired.  :))
Is this the only sitting panda with bamboo made from a major brand?

brontodocus

It really has the Schleich cuteness! :o 8) Which bothers me in some cases but here I do like it. :) Once again it's a figure I've seen countless times in stores (Schleich are ubiquitous in Germany) but only a walk-around like this lets me take a closer look at it. It's really better than I thought. :)

I relly like this figure more then the Brand new one that's coming in a few weeks.  It looks decently Proportioned plus its in a uncommon pose.

My mom Loves pandas, so she was awed by this one with the Bamboo. though I almost did not get it when I did, and would of Got the Schleich Red Deer couple instead.

Schleich is very very common around where I live, almost every Farm and Home type store around here sells them. I chose to collect them with Dinosaurs because they are available at the stores, and I don't have to mess with shipping and Handling online.

I assume my walkaround convinced you to get it?

Walk-around of the Schleich Bayala Brown Bear from "Torak". The bear is impressively large for Schleich's standards but not overly massive in build. It's up to everyone to decide if it represents a Eurasian Brown Bear, Ursus arctos arctos Linnaeus, 1758, or one of the other Brown Bear subspecies. Shoulder height is 79 mm and snout-vent length approximately 130 mm, so for a Eurasian the scale would be between approx. 1:12 and 1:16 (Grizzly Bears and Kodiak Bears can be a good deal larger but at least the figure lacks the massive look of a big male with a strong neck and tiny-eyed broad head dominated by huge temporalis muscles). The figure has been retired, recently, but can still be found at some stores, sometimes even for considerably less than the original retail price (we'll see how quickly this may become obsolete, of course). Torak himself may be an elven or human teenager figure (his ears are a bit concealed by his hood) with swivel joints in both wrists and a stick in one hand (which may be meant as some sort of riding crop since the wrists are movable). Apart from the Torak figure which despite its level of details I find rather useless but which is also (luckily) removable the most annoying detail is the notch in the bear's hump that is designed to fix Torak's left hand to the bear's hump. This means that the bear doesn't look good without Torak sitting on it and it made me somewhat regret having bought the figure (before I received it I only had stock and catalogue photos as a reference and none of them showed the notch in the hump). The figure can be recommended for collectors who like to display it with Torak sitting on top of the bear or who are willing to customise the hump. Since the hump is very high it won't hurt cutting off a few millimetres and so I customised my figure which was an easy fix and only took a few minutes including repainting and drybrushing the hump. Shoulder height is now 77 mm but the hump is still elevated enough for me.

After customisation, together with "European Father" from Miniland/Los Amigos del Mundo (scale approx. 1:13 - 1:14)

This is certainly my favourite Schleich bear! Also, you did great job on customisation! Congrats :D

I finally got this figure after a very looooooong search for it! It's a beautiful figure of another obscure species. I had to order mine from england, so to make the postage worth it, I got two :)

MaastrichianGuy

well what type of subspecies of asian black bear it is?

loru1588

This is the baby Panda I did for Safari back in the 90's. It was a series where they had my former associate and myself do an adult and baby of several species.

Hey, many thanks for the info! :) Often enough information about who sculpted which figure is so scarce, there are only a few dozens of figures I have of which I know who sculpted them. I wish such information was more generally available. Great work, too - although this comes a bit late in this case, I guess.

Ok i had this one for a while, but i just now got around to posting it here.

Details are excellent on this one, and I like it better then the Mojo model, though the paint work is fudged a little bit on the face.

bmathison1972

this is their re-release; so much better than the original!

brontodocus

Looks great, I always thought about getting it, too. :) Safari Ltd figures often have wonderful sculpts and a bit sloppy paint jobs (although they have vastly improved in recent years). I always favoured sculpt over paint job because the latter is easier to fix if you want to improve it yourself.

Walk-around of the amazing Papo Wild Animals (or Wild Animal Kingdom as the series has been renamed) standing Polar Bear, Ursus maritimus Phipps, 1774; item No. 50172. Standing height is 130 mm and snout-vent length approx. 127 mm so the scale would be between approx. 1:14 and 1:19 for a female and between 1:19 and 1:23 for a male (and up to 1:26 for a record-size specimen). Human figure (from Accoutrements "Horrified B-Movie Victims") is approx. 1:22.5 scale. I also added a comparison photo with Papo's standing Grizzly Bear, Ursus arctos horribilis which has been featured in a walk-around by Helge (postsaurischian). The Walrus is by Safari Ltd Wild Safari Sealife and approx. 1:23 - 1:28 scale.

The Polar Bear is one of the most iconic polar animals and rivals the largest subspecies of its closest relative, the Brown Bear, Ursus arctos, in size - with both the Polar Bear and the Kodiak Bear, U. arctos middendorffi, often mentioned as the largest extant land carnivorans. Polar Bears are dependent on marine sea ice environments and their global population is in decline mainly due to climate change induced habitat loss. IUCN considers the species "Vulnerable" and estimates the species may become extinct throughout most of its range within 100 years if climatic trends continue.

nice figure! The scared human is priceless. Interesting they had to sacrifice the right rear foot pads for marketing :).

oh and seeing the two species standing side-by-side...not to Safari...changing species means more than changing color (cough cough...Puma...cough) lol
