Thanks everyone!

In response to Isidro:

-The small tortoise is supposed to be a radiated tortoise (although since there's a fair chance you know more about tortoises than I do, feel free to point out if you think Indian or Burmese star tortoise is a better ID).

-The tuatara is about 6-7cm in length, not accounting for tail curvature.

-Finally, I agree; the boa is easily the best of its species avaliable.

I'm not going to keep the Komodo dragon and saltwater crocodile on display, however the rest of the reptiles and everything else are still up.
(a.k.a. Ravonium, on the DTF and STS)

Thanks Suspy, yes I meant radiated and inadvertently I wrote star instead. Tuatara is too big for my collection, then, I would like a 4 cm figure. I hope to be able to get some day the boa alone without buying the whole set.

Isidro

I opened today the figure that our kind Portuguese friend, @Roger , sent me in a swap for another figure.

This is the magnific Schleich's bowmouth guitarfish, Rhina ancylostoma. It's an splendid species, that I like a lot, and despite not being so uncommon in public aquaria I never saw it in my life.
I met this figure at the very begin on my collection. I was buying gifts at a commercial center and discovered then the Schleich stand. I bought the giant pangolin and gemsbok then, and tought that I would buy the guitarfish in another day. I came for it some months later, but they evanished all from the shelves. And I never found it again in other visits to this center or other toy shops that have Schleich. Finally the figure was retired from circulation and I still didn't have it.

So I must give a MUITO OBRIGADO to Rogerio :) This is, in my opinion, the best of the many bowmouth guitarfish figurines done by western brands (I'm surprised that a relatively obscure species is so popular as figurine). It have the perfect size and sculpt, and it's adult (there are juvenile figurines, with a very different pattern, but I avoid juvenile animals in my collection).

As arrived, still with the tag even!

Of course, first thing that I did is repaint it a bit!
P1320457.jpg

More clear spots added on all fins and some of body, making it more dense like in the real animal.

The eyes was the worst painted part of the original. Sadly, the sculpt of the eyes is not helpful here. The white part of the original doesn't form part of the eye itself, but is a white circle of skin around it in the real animal. But the eyes are sculpted as if the whole white and black part is the whole eye. Eyes are much smaller actually, and rounder, and can be cointained inside the black part of the original figure. My custom is far from perfect but I think that is much better now.

Underside was also repainted. Whole surface white (instead with suffused grey near borders), except think darker borders in the fin and head. More realistic now.

And now, integrated with the whole family  :D :D

I thought about acquiring this figure but I thought the CollectA model was better and cheaper. It is rather huge though.

Just acquired the current Schleich Hippopotamus. She is a large figure compared to the rest of hippos released by Schleich, but I like her as she is'nt all one colour and even has udders for next years calf.

I have just gotten the Collecta Secretary Bird for Christmas, and the detailing is incredible. As far as I can tell, its accurate too. The only thing that is slightly offputting is the largeness of the tail feathers, but this would only be noticed if held next to a photo of the real animal.

Here's my new CollectA Secretary Bird on display with a decorative globe and The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Birds of the World by David Alderton.

Congratulations on the new bird @MammothProductions
Great book, too. Out of interest, in that book are the common bird names written with leading capital letters or all lower case?

And heres a better look at the figure itself:

The common names are written in all lowercase. Even in headings, only the first word of the name is capitalized. In a sentence, the entire name is lowercase.

I got this figure in October 2017. I was very pleased with it, like you are @MammothProductions. By the way welcome to the forum.  :D

Only the three in the front should be posted here, but I didn't take a separate picture with them.

Why? Are the two dinos not recent acquisitions?

Yes, I like it too. Funny, I like the non-arthropods in it more than the arthropods!

Avian

Just saw this Toob at a Hobby Lobby. Priced at $30. Sorry, but no.

Best not to support Hobby Lobby anyway. Michaels has toobs priced at about half of that, and if they don't have enough selection even ordering a toob online shouldn't cost that much after shipping.

Advicot

In British pounds the TOOBs should cost around £15, but $30! Now that's crazy!  :o
