2. The striped owl, Asio clamator (=Rhinoptynx clamator). My favourite of the genus and one of my most favourite owls. The figure is exquisitely painted, and very well sculpted, as one can expect in the high-quality-standards Kaiyodo.

But, shamely, a thing that one also can expect in Kaiyodo is the very noticeable seams :(

The owl is a bit big, would match more in size for a snowy owl, a fishing owl or such.

Here with my homemade ashy-faced owl:

3. And finally, the gem of the trio: the supermagnific and dreamed Long-nosed Lancetfish (Alepisaurus ferox). I always liked a lot this species, with its dragon sail dorsal fin. All in the figure is extremely well done, the slim body, the fins, the sharp muzzle with prominent uneven teeth. The caudal fin is detachable from the fish, one must put care in not lose this part!

The figure match very well with other bathypelagic fishes from Japanese brands, either Colorata...

or Ikimon/Kitan Club...

Thanks Blaine, Tachyporinae is all what I knew too, and given it's so extremely speciose and superdifficult group I didn't cared about taking better pictures as I know they will remain unidentified.

I like the striped owl; there are several species of owl I still need that have been made by Kaiyodo for the Capsule Q Museum sets.

Advicot

I love the Japanese company figures that are the right size for my collection pity that it's unbelievably hard to find them for a decent price.  :'( Also is that an opah with the lancetfish?  ???

Isidro

Yes, is the Ikimon/Kitan Club opah from Deep Sea set, I already presented it in this same thread, before you register in the forum :D

These costed me 10€ each in eBay. I was very happy with this price because I always saw the lancetifish for prices that tend to be about 25 or 30 €. This is cheaper because is "used". But looks like new and in perfect condition, and I inmediately caught it :D

Advicot

My 78 new figures that I received from Xmas will be posted soon.  :)

Are your parents millonaires? :P Or all figures are Safari Good Luck Minis or chinamals ??? :P

Advicot

No (wish they were.) I just have a lot of family members who chip in and get me figures. It's mainly my parents, uncle and grandparents.

Well the figure brands are all the major ones as well as the lesser known ones. If my parents were millionaires I wouldn't have problems getting Japanese brand figures and animals that haven't been purchased on my wish list of currently available figures. Also they'd probably buy a major brand and create figures that we all as a community would like to see made.  :)

Japanese figures are not always so expensive, but one needs to wait long time for see them for sale at a reasonable price. Look at my three Kaiyodos in this same page - each one for 10 € :-)

The homemade models for European sculptos is another matter tough. I wish I had money for these fabulous figures made by José Miguel Aparicio, Anna Dobrowoska, Noemi Sóos and Joan Milerire...

Advicot

I'd rather spend money on many figures than buy homemade models which cost a lot for only figure, which won't do well in my collection.

My Christmas acquisitions:

Colorata Saltwater Fish Box:

Colorata Reptile Box:

Kitan Club Japanese Giant Salamander:
(a.k.a. Ravonium, on the DTF and STS)

bmathison1972

Nice Badger; I still want the two tortoises from the Reptiles Box

AnimalToyForum

Congratulations on your Christmas haul!

Isidro

Wow, Badger! I bought the saltwater fish set (from which I rejected two figures, the pufferfish and the seabream, for being too big), the Reptiles box looks interesting, especially that boa that is one of my wished figures and also the star tortoise... and I see there is a tuatera????? What is the size of this tuatera please???

Advicot

May I ask what you did with the two you rejected?  ???

I keep them in a drawer, out of my collection.

Advicot

Do you have any figures that you also keep in this 'drawer' It already sounds like a small gold mine to my ears by just the sea bream and pufferfish.  ???

Thanks a lot, Advicot. Yes, I found that too. I wanted to choose between Safari and Southlands hairy-nosed wombats, Southlands is better with a better sculpt, but noticeably bigger than the CollectA common wombat. Since hairy-nosed wombats are smaller than common wombats I wanted to avoid that. Maybe I will stick with the Safari hairy-nosed despite being slightly too big when compared with my current wombat.

Congrats for your many many many new acquisitions :) Some of them are already in my collection, others are in my wishlist, others are not wished for me (for example the CollectA bowmouth guitarfish (shark ray) is enormous) I find that Safari is the brand with most heavy bump in your collection, I hope that it will be for mine too soon as they have still many figures that I wish.

Sorry for disappoint you, but in the drawer there are only these two figures, plus the bases and sticks of all the other Colorata saltwater fish set (as I display mines witouth bases, and only some of them in sticks). I have, tough, some other "non-collection" figures scattered as collection over my books, that's a bad two-headed dragon, a Britains bison, a kiwi made from authentic pelt and fur, Trogloditos cereals velociraptor and pteranodon, and David the Gnome. I had also a Joy City pygmy hog, discarded from my collection due to bad quality and too minuscle size, but it fallen somewhere behind my shelves and I was unable to find it. Not a gold mine, as you can see :P
