I'm really hoping the "sea crocodile" = saltwater crocodile!  It would make sense for Papo to release a new crocodile figure since they don't have an adult one available currently.

I'm surprised Papo isn't releasing a new rooster figure, their current one is quite poor.

Also, Papo's continuing to release at least one cartilaginous fish figure a year!  I hope the shark will be a different species to Toymany's thresher shark.

I edited the first post with the list. That website is reliable for Papo announcements.

Please note, names are sometimes lost in translation with Papo. The 'sea crocodile' could be a prehistoric crocodylomorph. Not sure what 'ghost insect' is; could be a real insect or a fantasy creature.

Sim or I can add pics to the first thread as they become available.

Thanks for alerting this to us, @Sim

I too thought the crocodile could be a prehistoric species, but I noticed the figures appear to be grouped in categories, partly shown by their product number.  The crocodile and insect are among the extant animal species.

That's what I am hoping, too  ^-^  8)

Of course we have to see pics, but my interests are as follows:

I will most certainly get the moth, ghost insect (if not fantasy), and Andalusian bull

The jellyfish is a maybe, depending on species.

The 'sea croc' is a maybe, IF it is a saltie and if it's a good size and an original sculpt. Papo does weird things sometimes. Remember when the painted a Galapagos tortoise as a Hermann's tortoise? I could see them repurposing an old Nile croc sculpt for a saltie. Given the quality of their figures in recent years, it's a very slim risk, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I don't have any Papo dinos yet; maybe this will be the year depending on the size and quality of the pterosaur.

looks exciting

what if the sea crocodile is an American crocodile. One can wish!

For those wondering, in German this is what's meant by Meereskrokodil:
https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meereskrokodil

Leistenkrokodil is German for saltwater crocodile.

So ambiguous, but if it truly is a saltie, it would be called the latter. Of course, it could be a mistranslation from French too

stargatedalek

I was hoping it might be a metriorynchid!

Oh :/

Ok, the saltwater is good news if confirmed. But not excited about the rest. The cardinal will probably be really good, but I'm happy with the Safari Ltd one from the toob that I repainted to be more detailed, given the species is not so common here...

Thanks for the list!

This list seems a bit short compared to earlier years

According to the folks over on STS the item # for the crocodile is part of their wildlife range. So more than likely it should be an extant species.

I am sure there will be more items than what is listed- I am curious how accurate the list will turn out to be.

The running tiger will prove nice I am sure- they rock it when it comes to big cats. I would love a saltie! Another fallow deer will be nice too. The cardinal will be lovely, and the thresher shark is exciting to me. A jellyfish will be a good addition- I wonder if the penguin refers to the yellow eyed or a crested species. And for me, their bulls are always must haves! Probably likely to be a repaint of an existing sculpt though. I'd like to be excited about the dinos but I am curious to see photos first.

Looking forward to seeing the thresher! Hopefully it will be a Common as opposed to a Pelagic, which we already have nice figures of from Safari and Toymany. (It would make more sense too for a French company, as the Common is an Atlantic species, and the Pelagic is not). Doubt they'll do a Bigeye, but I would be curious to see that too!

Oooo I didn't think about the Common being an Atlantic species! That would be nice! Are there appreciable morphologic differences? Or do we think it might just be a generic thresher that can go either way?

There are definitely many little differences between the two species (fin placement, body proportions, snout length, coloration), although admittedly these differences are a bit subtle to an untrained eye. I'm hoping Papo stick to just modeling it after a Common, but I would not be surprised if it ends up being a generic amalgam, having some distinctive features of both species (the Safari model is like that to a certain extent)

NSD Bashe

I wonder what kind of jellyfish...

EpicRaptorMan

I'm hoping for a Portuguese Man-O-War. I know it's not a jellyfish but perhaps they'd still use it as a codename.

bmathison1972

If they are sticking with 'local fauna', the mauve stinger (Pelagia noctiluca) would be nice. It would be nice to have a smaller option of this species (it's generally assumed Safari's WS Sealife jellyfish are this species).

stargatedalek

Are the good luck minis not the same species?

Oh maybe. I don't collect GLM so I forgot about them.
