Everyone’s favorite herbivorous carnivoran, the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is also the most herbivorous species of carnivoran, with over 60 species of bamboo making up over 99% of its diet. The giant panda lives across six mountain ranges located in China, a sliver of its former range which once extended into southwest China, Myanmar, and north Vietnam.

A conservation icon, a beloved zoo attraction, and a star of a hit animated franchise, the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is quite possibly the most immediately recognizable animal on the planet. Naturally then, it has enjoyed countless toys over the decades, including this 2017 figure courtesy of Schleich.

When one thinks of animal conservation, the image of one rare animal will often pops into mind: the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). The symbol of the World Wildlife Federation, this magnificent bear nearly became extinct in the wild, but fortunately, it is in a better state than it was, now listed as venerable, so it can continue to live carefree, bamboo eating lives.
