It’s about time that I get the other half of this baby set from Toymany up on the blog! My portion of this set covers the animals from Asia and North America and will reflect the other half of the figures from Africa that have been covered by my fellow reviewer, bmathison1972. Our friend from Toymany, Kenc, was so kind as to provide this set to me and as nearly all of their products have been right on the mark, this set of babies has been a welcome addition to my collection!

As a new set released in 2024 it includes infant versions of the following animals; African elephant, hippopotamus, common zebra, reticulated giraffe, white rhinoceros, and a lowland gorilla (all reviewed and posted here by bmathison1972), in addition to a cougar, moose, sika deer, snow leopard, dromedary camel, and giant panda. I tried to cover information for both the juveniles for each species as well as the adult version of them- anyhow, let’s just get into the review!

Next up in the Toymany babies set is the other cat included in the set, the snow leopard. Snow leopard babies are rather small when born, weighing only between 11-25 oz. Cubs arrive in June or July and are born a much darker color than their mother but they develop their spots and lighter base coat as they grow a little older. They begin to eat meat around two months old and they are usually weaned on wild game items such as ibex or blue sheep found in the mountains around them. They are mobile and capable of following their mother around 3 months old; this is when they observe and learn skills from their mother, such as hunting for prey. These cats will become more independent from their mothers around 18-22 months old; this is longer than any other medium to large sized wildcat. Just like with the previous cougar review for this same set, the age where the cubs leave home depends on the personality of the cub as well as the mother’s tolerance of their presence. Because of this, female snow leopards will mate only every other year since their cubs stay with them for so long.

Adult snow leopards become sexually mature around 4 years old. These cats have thick fur that grows up to 5 inches long to help insulate them in their harsh environment. Snow leopards can jump up to 6 meters high and 15 meters far, even chasing after their prey over sheer cliffs. This is possible in part due to their long tail that helps as a counterbalance with their momentum and speed. Unfortunately, these wildcats are listed as “vulnerable” in their conservation status; they are hunted for their skins and other body parts for the illegal trade, habitat loss due to warming and human encroachment, loss of prey populations, and just day to day human conflict.

This snow leopard cub shows the most expression in this set. A feisty little cat born at the top of the world, it stands in a defensive crouched pose, with its tail swung out to the right side ready to thrust the little cat away from the threat. The head is held level with its back, and its mouth is partly opened in a moment frozen from a juvenile snarl. The blue eyes are intense, and the ears are held at a slight angle from forward facing, tipped to hear any indication of an escape route. This figure has fur detail and sculpted paws as is the Toymany way, and is expertly painted to replicate the real animal’s somewhat complicated spotted patterning. On the end of the tail and the head, and even the end of the legs, the spots are solid black; the body has open spotting with darker gray splotches inside these openings. There are faint white markings around the eyes, and a counter-shaded underside. Overall, this figure presents the most expression and intrigue for me, and would be an excellent addition to any plastic snow leopard’s litter.
