I wanted to introduce the first mammal to the Animal Toy Blog, so I used a Random Number Generator in conjunction with my Excel file database and here we have the red river hog, Potamochoerus porcus (Linnaeus, 1758) by CollectA. The figure was released in 2012 as part of their Wild Life line.
The red river hog is a species of wild pig that occurs in Equatorial Africa, with most populations occurring in the Guinean and Congolian Forests. It is a riparian species, living near rivers and swamps. Like most pigs, it is omnivorous.
The figure is 4.5 cm at shoulder height (not including the tuft), making it 1:10-1:14.5 in scale. Like most of CollectA’s hoofed mammals, the detail is fantastic. For simplicity, the long ears are attached to the body.
This figure comes very highly recommended for anyone interested in obscure or uncommonly-made species. The figure was released in 2012 but it still readily available. The only other figure to my immediate knowledge is the one that is part of K&M International’s Congo Play Set.
