Welcome to another “Savanah Summer”! Being a large continent, there are many places where Africa connects to oceans, in fact both the Pacific and Indian oceans are there. Thus, there is a huge amount of aquatic life, be it mammals, birds and, naturally, fish. Fish never tend to be as popular on toy shelves (unless it’s part of the shark family), so it’s always nice when a company makes more common fish.

Diana Monkey (Wildlife Collection by CollectA)
The Diana monkey (Cercopithecus diana) is a species of catarrhine (old-world) monkey native to Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Côte d’Ivoire. It’s named after the Roman goddess, Diana, goddess of wild animals and hunting, and the boundary between the wild and civilization, among other things. The Diana monkey gets this name due to its white crescent-shaped browband, which resembles the bow that the goddess is often depicted with.
Zebra, Stallion Laughing (AAA)
The days are long, it’s getting warm, there is colour in the trees. It must be summer. And as that’s the case, we see the return of my theme seasons. Welcome, once again, to my “Savanah Summer”!!! Once again. I will travel across Africa, from the Serengeti to the Congo, from plains to coasts, showing figures representing the best this amazing and diverse continent has to offer.
European Badger, 2021 (Wild Life Europe by Schleich)
Review and images by Suspsy; edited by bmathison1972
As its name suggests, the European badger (Meles meles) also known as the common badger or just plain old badger to those folks residing in Europe, ranges throughout the entire continent. It is arguably the second biggest land mustelid after the wolverine and its tenacity and toughness has led it to be frequently depicted in U.K.
Minke Whale (Wild Safari Sealife by Safari Ltd.)
The minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) belongs to the same genus as the world’s largest animal, the blue whale, but at 26-33’ (8-10.2 meters) is only a fraction of its giant cousin’s size. Indeed, the minke whale is the world’s smallest species of rorqual and the second smallest species of baleen whale (the pygmy right whale is the smallest).
Slender Bush Wren (Yowies Forgotten Friends Series A by Cadbury)
Songbirds are all around us today. So common, that it is hard to believe that any could become extinct. Of course, this is far from the case, as no species lasts forever. Here, we see the Bushwren, a near flightless species found in each of the major islands of New Zealand and many of the smaller islands.
Keel-billed Toucan (Wings of the World by Safari Ltd.)
Review and images by Suspsy; edited by bmathison1972
The toucans of Central and South America are some of the most unmistakable birds in the world thanks to their enormous bills and vivid colours. The beautiful keel-billed toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus), also known as the rainbow-billed or sulphur-breasted toucan, is perhaps the most iconic member of this family.
Pelican (Bullyland Birds by Bullyland)
When it comes to catching fish, birds have found many techniques. You having diving kingfishers, spearing herons and skimmers galore. But the birds with the most straight forward approach are the pelicans. With an inflatable gullet, they scoop their prey in, water and all. This has made them quite successful, being found across the globe.
Crested Gecko (Incredible Creatures by Safari Ltd.)
The Safari crested gecko (Correlophus ciliatus) is new for 2022 and part of their Incredible Creatures line. It’s a fitting addition too. The crested gecko is only found on the island country of New Caledonia. Specifically, on the southern portion of the island of Grand Terre and on Isle of Pines.
Japanese Flying Squid (Nihon Auto Toy)
Review and images by Bruhmingo; edited by bmathison1972
Hello all, today I would like to share one of my favorite figures in my collection, the Nihon Auto Toy Japanese flying squid, (Todarodes pacificus). It has been difficult to find information on this model and the company producing it, but they seem to have been sold in Japanese crane games at arcades.
European Stag Beetle (Wild Animals by Papo)
The European stag beetle, Lucanus cervus, is an iconic insect of the European hardwood forests. Unfortunately, its numbers dropped in the 20th Century due to modern forestry, which removed dead oak and beech trees required for larval development. The beetle gets its Latin epithet, cervus, and its common name ‘stag beetle’ after Cervus elaphus (red deer), as the mandibles of a major male are reminiscent of the antlers of a red deer stag.
Bactrian Camel (Wildlife by CollectA)
Review and images by Suspsy; edited by bmathison1972
The Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus) of Central Asia is the largest living member of the camelid family (although the dromedary is taller). An adult male averages around 600 kg (1323 lbs) in weight, but can achieve up to 1000 kg (2204 lbs).
Hereford Cattle, Cow (Farm World by Schleich)
The Hereford is a breed of cattle that originated in Herefordshire, England, in 1742. Originally used as a multi-purpose breed, Hereford cattle are now bred specifically for their meat. They can be easily identified by their mostly dark red body and white face. The Hereford is smaller than the similar Simmental cattle, and in general has less white spotting and tends to be darker red in color too.
