Over this past year, I’ve made the choice to replace my Schleich Muskox with CollectA’s version. With a shoulder height of about 6.5cm, this figure roughly belongs to the 1:18-1:23 scale. This places it well within the range of most other figures of large terrestrial animals.

The first detail that sticks out is the amazing fur texture. The individual locks are a lot finer, a notable upgrade from the Schleich figure. It makes the figure feel more dynamic as the posterior fur is at an angle.

Compared to the Schleich figure, the head and eyes are smaller compared to the rest of the body. The head itself is also more detailed. The horns are more brightly contrasted from the fur, which appears more accurate to the real animal.

The head from the front-view looks far more convincing on the CollectA figure, which was my biggest issue with the older Schleich muskox. It’s far more narrow, and the horns curve more laterally from the face.

The hooves also appears smaller and less blocky, with more complex pattern for the surrounding fur. The new muskox continues to impress at every corner.

The CollectA Muskox is near perfection. I would recommend anyone to acquire this figure when they have the change. It’s the best representation for this species I’ve seen yet.

  • I thought about reviewing a muskox for the holiday season this year but never got around to actually getting one. I was torn between this one and Safari’s. I think I prefer this one.

    • The Safari version looks good, but I think both the paintjob and sculpt look better on the CollectA version

      • The paint job definitely. Like the babirusa and pygmy hippo in addition to the muskox, the marvelous sculpts of the Safari figure suffers from inferior paint jobs to their CollectA counterparts, making most collectors favor the latter.

        • As far as paint goes it’s really no contest. But I like the movement of the Safari figure and that it’s sculpted by Doug Watson. But yes, I do believe I’ll ultimately be picking the CollectA one.
