This is a modified version of the walk-around I did for the Animal Toy Forum.
Walk-around of what is probably my favorite figure, the Japanese firefly (also known as genji-botaru), Luciola cruciata Motschulsky, 1854 by Kaiyodo, No. 45 in the Natural Monuments of Japan line. The species has been made a couple times, including previously by Kaiyodo for their Choco Q Animatales line.
Larvae of this species are aquatic, and so adults are typically found in aquatic habitats, such as streams and ditches. They are found throughout much of Japan, with an unconfirmed record from the Korean peninsula.
This is such a lively and dynamic figure. The detail is exquisite. Plus, I am a sucker for figures on natural bases. Like most older Kaiyodo figures, assembly is required. The beetle’s body is 3.5 cm, making it roughly 3:1 in scale.
This figure comes HIGHLY recommended, and not just because I am an entomologist. It is accurate and very dynamic. As long as insects are within your collection range, you should pursue this figure. While retired, it is still available on eBay, although they may be expensive depending on the source.

Woah, that is a really magnificient figure! How big is it? I guess it’s in like a 2:1 scale?
The animal itself is about 3:1; the maximum height of the figure from base to the top of one of the elytra is about 7.0 cm.
