Fjord Mare (Horse Club by Schleich)

Hello again! Here we will have the review for the mare counterpart to the fjord horse pairing. If you would like to read more about the breed itself, I included a history and variety of facts for them in the Schleich’s gelding article here. The figure being discussed below is the mare figure by Schleich produced in 2024, #13980. And again, huge thank you to Happy Hen Toys for supplying the sample of this wonderful figure.

Looking into the mare now; she was sculpted with a more dynamic pose than the gelding. She appears to be a fast walk or a transition between that and a trot with her right leg leading. Her ears are pricked forward and attentive and her head is turned ever so slightly to her left. Her coat is a much lighter color than the gelding’s; it could just be a pale “brown dun” or possibly be classified as a “yellow dun”.

She has a natural forelock also, but her mane has been sculpted to look longer and she has also had the white hair trimmed into points every so often while the black hair has been trimmed into rounded edges at converging points; this results in a heart shape showing through the center of the mane. The dark stripe continues down her back and terminates in the natural ending of her tail hair. She too has no wither or leg striping, and only bears the dark points around her hooves, the back of her hind legs, around her eyes, and her muzzle.

She too presents a more athletic and riding horse type of physique with her fine-looking head, long, narrow legs, and slimmer torso. Her overall demeanor even with the more active looking pose still indicated a friendly horse heading in from pasture to say hello to a fond friend waiting at the gate. I am quite partial to this mare myself and would also recommend her to any equine enthusiast’s herd.

And of course, thank you again to Happy Hen Toys for the sample product and be sure to check out their store and this item is available there.
