Another “Savanah Summer” and, much like last year, I’m bringing out the big guns! In Africa, there is no bigger than the African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana). At 13ft tall and over 10 tonnes in weight, it is the true heavy weight, and take the title of largest land animal with ease (even though giraffes are taller). Because of this, there have been many models of this magnificent and (sadly) rare animals. Here we see an example by AAA.
Here we see a fine bull, ears flapping as it moves off. Whether it is trying to cool down or intimidate a rival is entirely up to you. The ear is a decent plastic, with enough elasticity to move and sturdy enough so there is not issue of it or any other extremities (trunk, tusks etc.) being broken in a fall.
This is a decently sized model, measuring 6″ long and 4″ high, not as big as other models, but still decent. This does make it heavy, as it is solid rather than hollow, so best to ensure it doesn’t get used as a projectile against a sibling or anything breakable. The detailing is decent for it’s time, though the seam is visible, and the paint good if simple (the triangular bit of red on the mouth specifically).
While this is a treasure from my childhood, I wouldn’t really call it a must for collectors, as better examples have been made in the years since it was discontinued. I will say that kids would adore this model, and would (as I did) enjoy playing with it in sand boxes or any other play environment. EBay is your best bet to find the big guy, if you want him for your own kid to play with. Now, let the trek continue on the adventure that is the “Savanah Summer”!

Wow, pretty nice elephant for AAA. I like that it doesn’t have the blood red eyes that so many AAA mammals do.
