Guadalupe Bass (3″ Figure by Replica Toy Fish)

4.9 (19 votes)

In August 2015 another wave of figures was released by Replica Toy Fish. Once again, no real announcement or launch, I think I found out because of a photo on the STS collector site or something. Maybe I found out about a different figure, and this one was there too. Seems like something that would be important for a company to make sales…anyway, it was just a few more species, but again, pretty popular models.

Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Crappie (3″ Pond Fish set Part 2 by Replica Toy Fish)

And here we have the final trio of the original 3″ fish produced by Replica Toy fish, the second half from the ‘pond fish’ set. Similar to my look at the two halves of the American Angler set (here and here), the first Pond Fish set featured a range of taxonomic groups, and this second half will be all from a single family–Centrarchidae, the basses and sunfish.

Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Yellow Perch (3″ Pond Fish set Part 1 by Replica Toy Fish)

Back with another trio from the original dozen three inch fish released by Replica Toy Fish. When packaged in the small acrylic tubes, it was referred to as the ‘Pond Fish’ set. While the ‘Northwoods’ set featured popular angling fish found primarily in northern North America, the next six are normally considered more southern in their natural distribution–but as with any popular sport fish, they’ve found themselves spread, legally or not, into many other regions of North America and the world.

Smallmouth Bass, Brook Trout, Walleye (3 Inch Northwoods Fish Set Part 1 by Replica Toy Fish)

I’m back with another look at some Replica Toy Fish models. Last time was the 6″ channel catfish figure, this time I’ll be looking at one of the initial sets of three inch figures. There were two sets of six, but I will split them into two posts of three figures just to keep them a little shorter!

Bluegill Sunfish (Freshwater Fishes Book 2, second release by Yujin)

This figure is the bluegill sunfish (or just bluegill), Lepomis macrochirus, model number 26 and figure number 11 from the second series. Sunfish are medium-sized relatives of the largemouth and smallmouth bass (Centrarchidae) that natural occurred in the US in many areas east of the Rocky Mountains (and no relation to the ocean sunfish Mola).

Largemouth Bass (Freshwater Fishes Book 2, second release by Yujin)

This figure is the Largemouth Bass, Micropterus salmoides, model number 25 and figure 10 from the second series. These are large freshwater bass naturally found in the Mississippi River system of North America. However, they are popular sport fish and have been released in many parts of the world, including, of course, Japan.

Largemouth Bass (Incredible Creatures by Safari Ltd.)

The largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) is the U.S.A.’s premier freshwater gamefish. An estimated 30 million Americans target the species, creating a $60 billion dollar industry. I admit it, I’m one of those 30 million Americans. I’m an avid fisherman and the largemouth bass has been my favorite species to target ever since I was a small boy catching bluegills alongside a dinky little farm pond, where the comparatively elusive and gigantic largemouth bass ruled as the apex predator.
