This Papo tigress #50003 was first released in 2004 and retired in 2012 as part of their Wild Animals line and was also included in their gladiator series of figures; there was a fighting male lion figure alongside her.

The following post will regale yet another tale of an animal with a predilection for human kills.

The Everglades is a subtropical and tropical wetland spanning 7,800 square miles (20,000 km2) in central and south Florida in the United States. Water from the Kissimmee River south of Orlando feeds into Lake Okeechobee and then continues south into Florida Bay. Although mostly marsh and flooded grassland the Everglades also run through cypress swamps, hardwood hammocks, pinelands, coastal prairies, and mangrove forests.

Being December we’re now at the height of the holiday season and so for my next couple of reviews I’ll be featuring seasonally appropriate animals. “But this is a cat”, I hear you say, “what do cats have to do with the Holidays?” Well, if you’re asking that question then you’ve apparently never heard of the Yule cat, my favorite piece of Christmas folklore.

The charismatic Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) is the nominate tiger species and probably the one that most people envision in their minds when you mention tigers to them. Native to the Indian subcontinent, it rivals the Siberian tiger for the title of world’s biggest living cat.

The caracal (Caracal caracal) is a small cat that lives over much of Africa (outside of rainforests and much of the Sahara Desert), the Arabian Peninsula, Middle East, and Central Asia to western India. It prefers scrub forest, thickets, savannas, marshy lowlands, rocky hills, and semi-deserts, generally in areas that are dry but offer sufficient vegetation for cover.

African lions (Panthera leo) are by far the most social of wild felids thanks to their practice of living in groups of around 15 to 30 individuals, commonly called prides. The males, with their greater size and distinctive manes, occupy themselves primarily with defending the pride against intruders.

Happy holidays to all, and welcome to this year’s first “Winter Wonderland”! At the moment though, it is also the last, as I kinda used up all I had for it last year. But, something is better than nothing, so here is a creature of the frozen heights of the Himalayas, the Snow Leopard (Panthera uncia).

White Tiger (Wildlife Asia & Australia by Schleich)

3.9 (7 votes)

Contrary to popular belief, the white tiger is not its own unique species or sub-species of tiger. In fact, according to Luke Hunter’s Carnivores of the World, all captive white tigers are descended from one wild individual. That individual was a male cub captured in Madhya Pradesh, India, in 1951.

In the forests of South America, is an incredible and capable killer. With a camouflaged pelt, acute senses and a powerful bite that allows it to crush turtle carapaces and mammal skulls, it is famed for power and features in many myths and legends of the region. This animal is the Jaguar (Panthera onca), and despite the problems from hunting for it’s pelt, it is still among us across South America, though in many areas it’s numbers are incredibly low, hence why, in the Noah’s Pals line, it is part of the “vulnerable” line, limited to 20,000 pairs.
