The Argentine horned frog (Ceratophrys ornata) or ornate horned frog is the most common species of horned frog. As its name suggests, it is found in Argentina, but also in Brazil and Uruguay. And it is famous for being a voracious predator that will try to consume any organism it can fit into its mouth.

Toymany’s Argentine horned frog is one of their larger amphibians, measuring 5 cm long, 3.5 cm high, and 4 cm wide. Like many frog toys, it is sculpted in a sitting pose with its head raised and its hind limbs folded up.

Normally, this frog is bright green with red markings, but Toymany has opted to make theirs an albino variation. It is pale yellow with orange markings outlined in white, a white underbelly, and dark red eyes. It looks quite nice, and given how many green frog toys there are, it’s a rather welcome change. Plus albino horned frogs are said to be particularly prized as exotic pets.

The horned frog’s skin is pitted all over, and covered with small bumps on its dorsal side. The horn shaped brows are present, as are the short and stout limbs. And of course, our frog boasts an enormous mouth and a large, deep skull. Along with the yellow colouration, it certainly lives up to its popular alternate name, the Pac-Man frog.

Like all members of its family, the Argentine horned frog is an ambush predator, lying in wait until something moves by close enough for it to snap up. It eats insects and other invertebrates, mice, rats, birds, lizards, snakes, and other amphibians, including smaller horned frogs.

Overall, I find that the Toymany Argentine horned frog is a very good toy indeed. Recommended.
