Time to head to central and southern Africa for this “Savanah Summer”, as we look into an intriguing omnivore. The aardvark (Orycteropus afer) is the last of the order Tubulidentata, it is a burrowing, nocturnal creature, feeding on ants, termites and the Aardvark cucumber, they are an amazing species, with it’s pig like nose for digging out insects. A small number of figures of this species have been made, and here we see a delightful pair by Noah’s pals.
We start with the male, Anthony, who is plodding along, or perhaps about to dig up a termite nest. As a 1:24 scale, it is small, measuring 2″ long and 1.4″ high, thanks to very alert ears. This shows a rather a naked Aardvark, showing the very grey colours some have, not showing the brownish hair some may have.
Next to the female, Angela. She is more relaxed, sitting back, observing the ground. Maybe found something tasty to eat. Again, this is the more hairless look, with an all over grey, no brown at all, which could be there. She is small, measuring 2″ long and 1.4″ high.
There aren’t a lot of aardvark models out there and these are a really good set. Well designed, decent sculpt and being fun over all. As Noah’s Pals are long discontinued, so eBay is your best to hunt them down, but I do think you should, as they really are a sweet little set. The “Savanah Summer” is heading towards it’s final few weeks, so let’s keep going!!
