Gorilla, baby sitting with banana (AAA)

Primates. The order of which humans and our closest related species belong to. One of the groups that we are also included in are the great apes, the largest being the gorilla (Gorilla gorilla). These magnificent African apes are critical endangered and need protecting. It has many, many figures of the species made. Here, we see a juvenile version by AAA.

First, to discern the species and subspecies. There are two species: eastern and western. As this example has a banana, and western gorillas tend to eat more fruit, I would suggest it is one of those subspecies, likely the Cross River gorilla, as their diet is largely fruit. It should be noted though that bananas are not native to where gorillas live, meaning this model is likely a captive juvenile. Rather sad, really.

While this does feature all the hallmarks of a juvenile gorilla (a flatter muzzle and smaller head), the low quality means it is hard to pick out all the features (I thought it was a chimpanzee for many years). It measures 2.2″ high and ]2.3″ wide, a bit large for most lines, but could work.

Overall, this isn’t a terrible figure, but it is certainly dated. This is a model for the toy box, not the collector’s shelf. Kids will love it (I certainly did) and adults may see a charm to it, but most will likely skip it. If it does charm you, eBay is your only option, owing to it being discontinued.
