Grass has been an incredible influence on the world, and resulted in an incredibly diverse number of animals that could eat it: the grazers. Some of the greatest numbers of these animals come from the plains and savanna of Africa, with this review covering the largest of the antelopes, the giant eland (Taurotragus derbianus). These 7-9 ft tall bovids roam central and western Africa, grazing and browsing on plants that other antelopes cannot. Here, we see CollectA’s take on this gorgeous animal.
This model appears to be based on the derbianus subspecies, with it’s lighter body hair and darker horns. The paint scheme is top notch overall, perfectly encapsulating the look of this species.
As befitting to an animal known as giant, this is quite large, measuring 5″ long and 4.8″ from hoof to horn (scale 1:15.5 – 1:22). The sculpt is brilliant overall, with a magnificent striding pose. Works well for him (trust me, this is definitely a male, based on his sculpted genitals).
Elands are not an overly-common group among animal toy models, with only the Britains common eland and the calf from CollectA being the only other models I can think of. The gorgeous sculpt and wonderful paint work make this a very easy model to recommend. If you see it, get it.

Thank you for this contribution! It’s been a while since we’ve had an ungulate on this Blog!
Always a pleasure. Won’t be the last, believe me!

CollectA really leads the pack when it comes to antelopes, although they haven’t put out a new one in some years now.
They release one each year, they did one last year, the Dama gazelle.
None for 2020 though.
Great review of this awesome figure!
CollectA’s antelopes and other ungulates are the best!
