Over on the STS forum I have a continuous thread to post photos of models I acquire alongside others for the sake of comparing them to earlier renditions of a species from one brand, across companies to show how each brand approached the species, or to just point out big similarities and differences. Anyone please feel free to post your own examples if you wish- I have an extensive list from STS I can slowly bring over here to present. And if you have requests... I am always happy to assist! I know a lot of members are synoptic collectors and I am not- but very happy to help with decision making where I can.

Anyway, I hope this thread proves useful.

These are models I got fairly recently-
A few more comparisons!

2024 Mojo bison and friends

Friends being the original Mojo bison, Toymany, CollectA, and the latest Safari.

Animal paradise quaggas with my herd (Mojo, a custom repaint Schleich, and Club Earth)

Thought I'd put these here too- Mojo Fun 2024 lions alongside their 2011 and 2014 compatriots.

I really like the new lioness' posture.

Two Toymany sets! The 2024 frogs and new tiger family!

I included contemporary brands for comparison- if anyone had a different model in mind feel to request it! If I have it I am happy to snap a photo. **Please keep in mind, a few of these models shown here are from a very young company still figuring out the paint work at the time- but if you look closely enough you can see the improvement from the old versions to the new ones!**

When I posted my overview of the 2024 Frogs collection on the Blog, @sbell was curious how they compared with Colorata. Here I am doing side-by-side comparisons with Toymany and Colorata figures, in the instances when the two companies produced the same species (which isn't very many). If there is not a Colorata option, I am doing a side-by-side with whatever example I happen to have and I'll state which one I am retaining for my collection.
These are quick-and-dirty pics; I didn't adjust light or color.

Wallace's Flying Frog.
Toymany (left) and Blip Toys (right); I am keeping the Toymany version in my collection.

and here it is with Colorata's green flying frog (a different species in the same genus):

Australian Green Tree Frog.
Toymany (left) and Kaiyodo (right); I am keeping Toymany in my collection. I should point out, this particular Kaiyodo figure is from the Capsule Q Museum Good Luck Charms line, and they tend to be very small, even by Kaiyodo's standards.

Argentine Horned Frog.
Toymany (left) and Yujin (right). I am retaining the Yujin, if for no other reason I want a wild-type color.

And here it is with Colorata's 'Chacoan horned frog'. I put the latter in parenthesis, because technically the Colorata figure was marketed as the Argentine horned frog, but morphologically it best fits the Chacoan. The two species are commonly mixed up, especially in the pet trade. This leads me to ponder, is the Toymany frog really a Chacoan? One can easily argue yes, if using the horns above the eye as a metric!

American Bullfrog.
Yujin (left) and Toymany (right). This was a tough call, but I am retaining the Yujin figure in my collection, at least for now.

Strawberry Poison-dart Frog.
Colorata (left); Toymany (right). I am keeping the Toymany version in my collection.

Red-eyed Tree Frog.
Colorata (left/back); Toymany (right/front). This was a very tough call. The Toymany figure inarguably has the more refined sculpt and color, but I love that the Colorata figure is dangling from a branch. For the time being, I am keeping the Colorata version in my collection.

Budgett's Frog.
Toymany (left/front); Ikimon (right/back). I am keeping the Ikimon version.

Lehmann's Poison Frog.
Toymany (left); Kitan Club/Ikimon (right). Other than a slight size difference, these two are very similar. I am retaining the Ikimon version.

Darwin's Frog.
Toymany (left); Colorata (right). I assumed I would keep the Colorata but once I got them both in-hand to compare, I went with Toymany.

Blue Poison-dart Frog.
Toymany (left); Colorata (right). Like with Darwin's frog, I assumed I would keep the Colorata but once I got them both in-hand to compare, I went with Toymany.

Yellow-banded Poison-dart Frog.
Furuta (left); Toymany (right). I am going with Toymany, mainly because of the lack of assembly.

Those are helpful comparisons. I'm surprised how often the Colorata and Toymany kind of work well as companion pieces. There's probably a lot of sets that Toymany could recreate with their own spin

BlueKrono

If you're looking to offload the Blips flyer and the Darwin's I know someone who would buy them from you. ^-^
I like turtles.

Saarlooswolfhound

The new black jaguar family from Toymany! I do not currently have the "normal" color set of these yet but I hope to change that soon.

And here we go for comparison photos!

Ans then some diorama shots for fun.

An interesting find while at a thrift store last week.

I am slowly moving into the last portion of my website renovation and collection updating (hurray!) so I took the time to update my Oceanian mammal section over this last week- Here are the updated "family portraits" and you can view them also on their dedicated page on my website The Curious Compendium!

Beautiful wonders from Down Under! Nice comparison shots!

that UK Yowie echidna looks like a chocolate-dipped icecream treat covered with peanuts  ::D  ::D  ::D

Saarlooswolfhound

Thank you! And YES that echidna looks exactly like those drumstick icecream cones I love!

Found this little guy (Mojo) at HL yesterday. Its much nicer than I expected. I'd place it as better than CollectAs but Toymany's still wins.

Gwangi

That is pretty good. I agree, it looks better than CollectA's. Is ToyMany's the one that's facing it?

sbell

I would just like to see more wild -pattern axolotl. Which is why the only one I currently have is the Kaiyodo pets one.

Kind of like leopard geckos... not sure why the default is morphs...

Yes, that's toymany's example on the right.

I thought so, that one does appear to be the best of the bunch.

I also want a wild-pattern axolotl but I suppose I'm ultimately just happy to see their popularity on the rise.

A few more updated family portraits- they should get uodated on my website (hopefully!) over the weekend but the hosting site broke some of the editing tools again.

Some comparison shots with my new birthday additions (see my thread for the other models).

This paintwork is a much better fit for this sculpt- it never was the proportions of an Arctic. (but it still has blue eyes...)

I really adore these new koi!
