Someone on STS posted the capuchin monkey, so it must be available (probably in stores). Been hard to find anything on eBay and HHT doesn't have anything yet.

Has anyone noticed a reduction in Papo availability? MiniZoo doesn't even carry, or list, a lot of more recent models.

And I'm seeing them in fewer shops these days

@sbell I don't think so. Papo is always hard to come by & are slow with there releases & availability. Been like it for a couple years now. Won't be until well into 2025 until all the '24 stuff will be available.

I'm just surprised that MiniZoo doesn't even list them. They're usually on top of every company

Actually, HHT usually gets Papo before Minizoo (I know that doesn't help you Sean, since HHT doesn't ship to Canada, correct?). But Minizoo is usually behind for Safari and sometimes Schleich too. The only two things Minizoo is on top of, at least among non-Chinese companies, is CollectA and Mojo Fun.

It's just weird that they don't list any of the 2024 figures. Usually they'll be there just to allow email notifications.

Which, because HHT won't ship to Canada, means it's quite the challenge to get them. Eventually a company like Imaginarium has them but it takes forever

I'm starting to think that some of the 2024 releases will actually be 2025 releases or not released at all (like with the python). Which would be a shame, I wanted the tamarin and the ibis (despite the open wings pose...)

It was established there's nothing wrong with the ibis's pose earlier in this thread.  And for the record, it was an anaconda that Papo never released.  Pythons tend to not even get into the prototype stage for a figure :(

It may be nothing wrong with the pose, but I dislike it, it's a matter of personal taste + displayability + honestly, I don't see it so natural. But I'm curious, could you please point me to that thread? - Edit: I saw the "discussion", it was not such, it was you and other member stating that the pose is natural. Again, it may be natural, but I think it does not help depicting the "essence" of the bird. The pose, together to the thick legs (that I understand) give the figure an "aggressive" appearance that doesn't fit with the real animal. In general, I think there's a tendency of sculpting birds with open wings that doesn't make justice to the animals or simply get them wrong. See the snowy owl, for example.

You are right about the anaconda :)

Sim

I don't believe opening the wings means the animal is necessarily being aggressive, but if it is there's nothing wrong with that.  Animals are aggressive sometimes, that doesn't take away from what they are.  If you want to continue to think the pose is unnatural ("I don't see it so natural") or that it "doesn't fit with the real animal", you can, but I think it's sad that you convince yourself of something untrue.  You have two different people telling you birds do sometimes take that pose, I can only guess why you'd choose to believe otherwise.

Papo tends to release figures late in the year, I wouldn't worry about them not releasing any yet, I've heard the Suchomimus is coming this month.

Oh gosh...

The general appearance of this figure does not transmit the elegance of this bird IN MY OPINION, and one (avoidable) reason are the wings. There are other unavoidable ones like the thick legs.

And that's my opinion of the figure, I dont need to convince me of anything. A pose may be natural, like a peeing lioness, and still make the figure look odd or not to represent the animal accurately (and I have a peeing Beauty of the Beasts' culpeo).

Apart from that, I said that brands tend to over-represent open winged birds.

And, over all, I'm sorry but two members saying something doesn't make that something to be true (despite it is true in this case). But, again, I'm not doubting that the pose is some that the real animal can adopt, I've never had.

Ah, and as I've said from the beggining, I'm getting this figure.

Sim

Well, when you say the pose doesn't fit with the real animal or that it's not so natural, it does come across as you saying you believe the pose is artificial.

bmathison1972

I am not crazy about the open wings either, but hey it's got to open it's wings at some point if it wants to fly  :P

But it's such a desired species, I am getting it.

Sim

I intend to get it too!  I've got an increased appreciation for ibises after I saw a video of one land on a table and eat pizza.  I also saw some at London Zoo in an area with an impressive, very tall waterfall feature.  Some were at the top of the waterfall while others were in the pool at the bottom of it, not minding that there were some dead rats floating in the water near them (I'm guessing the rats were their food).  I actually had a conversation with a friend afterwards about why some animal species get made into figures and others don't.  I wasn't aware of any ibis figures at the time, but since then I've obtained the Eikoh ibis!
