Migrating DTB reviews to the ATB

Having an objective binary definition is far simpler in my opinion.

I didn't make it clear that I intend for reviews to appear only on one site or the other, there will be no reviews on both. So, the binary definition is a must. Sorry @suspsy, this means the ones you already migrated over will be deleted from the Dinosaur Toy Blog. There's a technical reason for this related to search engines possibly punishing sites with duplicate content. But I also think it's cleaner.

I might have a go at migrating the reviews this week.

suspsy

I am perfectly fine with this decision. My reviews will still be available on the ATB for people to enjoy and learn from. And judging from the comments, a majority of people are in favour of the 1000 AD cutoff.

I guess I will begin posting replacement reviews on the DTB so that my total number remains the same.

Okay, I went ahead with the migration! I encountered a few errors along the way, but I think it worked in the end, let me know if any content is missing. Here's the category: http://animaltoyforum.com/blog/category/recently-extinct/ Some of the imported pages seemed to load slowly for me, but that might just be me.

I'll leave the duplicate posts on the Dinosaur Toy Blog for now while we make sure everything is in order on the ATB.

@suspsy, thanks for understanding, and I believe you can still meet your target!

One more thing, the publication dates (and comments) DID migrate over with the rest of the content, so the posts will not appear as if 'just published' on the front page. Some of them, of course, even predate the creation of the Animal Toy Blog itself. Does this matter? Is it worth changing the dates?

One thing I see is that there is going to have to be a lot of manual editing of Categories and Tags to meet ATB standards. For example, all of sirenia's Yowie reviews are tagged 'Yowie' but on ATB, we use 'Yowies'. So someone selecting one, won't have the other. Also, the DTB reviews are inconsistent with the use of tags

...I went through and edited those in the first 25 pages (was easier than expected). I also went to the last page, since DTB was older. I noticed that posts by @suspsy which have already been copied over are now on the blog twice. I suggest deleting the older (DTB) posts from ATB, since the new versions have standardized tags and categories per ATB. Also, @Gwangi - I edited your Mojo thylacine accordingly too, since I saw it there :).

suspsy

Yeah, please do delete the DTB versions, especially because a couple of them contain text specifically relating to the DTB.

Okay! I'll do that now.

Thanks @bmathison1972 for updating the categories/tags.

Gwangi

Thanks @bmathison1972 for tagging my review. I was just about to do that myself.

I am not done; I still need to do the posts between pages 25-45 roughly

Gwangi

I went through and edited my review so that it would jive better with the ATB vs. how it was written for the DTB.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by pages 25-45. Only 2 pages of reviews have been imported, aren't these the only ones that need the tags updating?

suspsy

My ATB reviews will also require 'recently extinct' tags at some point.

I meant pages on the ATB (total)

I am removing that tag from all. ATB doesn't need a 'Recently Extinct' tag or category

sirenia

You gonna update reviews from guest reviews, or do we need to do that.

@sirenia - you (and others with direct access to the Blog) can do you/their own. I will do it for others.

What are you changing on all the existing ATB posts? I'm confused.  O:-)

Oh! It completely slipped my mind that Indohyus = Sirenia! I could've correctly attributed the posts in batch when I migrated them, oops! Now we have to do it manually. But I don't think Sirenia is able to do this himself, it needs an admin to do it.

Changing authorship in an option when creating new posts. Since sirenia has access as he is a direct contributor, he should be able to do it. If not, I can assist.
