I've been looking for the Collecta Basking Shark for my collection, and usually Collectas are easier to find in America. Any shops I could check that don't have expensive shipping?

Gwangi

I'm in the U.S. and got mine from Minizoo.

this seems to be the cheapest on eBay at the moment: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304120934325?hash=item46cf052fb5:g:22UAAOSwZPthJu8u
shipping's a little pricey depending where you live but it's definitely not the worst.

It says it's no longer carried by 'CollectA USA', which is is probably just a US distributor. They may be changing their marketing strategies in the US. Does not mean CollectA has retired the figure.

It says they no longer have it when you add it to the cart. I may just have to wait a couple of years for it to become widely available, sort of like the Pygmy Sperm Whale. Where did @Gwangi get his from Mexico?

Minizoo is in Australia, not Mexico. Minizoo is usually the first major dealer to get CollectA figures in, so many of us order from them when the figures are first released. Takes about two weeks to ship to US via their standard method, but they have great customer service.

Sometimes they don't become widely available, such was the case with the beaked whale. Minizoo was really the only affordable option for that one. Minizoo was great though, keep your package small and shipping isn't too bad either. I think my package of 4 figures was $10.

oops, it was early in the morning when I read gwangi's post and I must have misread it. I'll place an order at minizoo in the near future. Too bad dejankin's doesn't sell modern animals, as they always seem to get Collecta models.

The problem is that about 5 years back CollectA sold exclusive North American distribution rights to a company that is more focused on horses and farm animals.

For a while some places, including Dean at Dejankins, would order from international distributors and bring them in. Then CollectA cracked down--basically told those international distributors that they couldn't sell wholesale to North America or they'd lose their purchasing ability (they have some kind of system to know what gets sold where). It does appear Dean's gotten past it again somehow, but that's why CollectA can be so hard to find in the US and Canada now.

I agree; I like working with HH (when the figures I want are available); they also sell PNSO, which is rare in the US!

It's bad for collectors that they did that, but hopefully it will get better. Also the Basking Shark should be arriving in the next couple of days.
