I decided I am probably not going to get to most of the Safari Smithsonian insects for a bit. I think I'll wait for the spring when things get green around here again as I am going to want to photograph them outside. I won't formally reserve them (except for the monarch adult, since I already did the caterpillar), so if others submit reviews of the remaining figures before I can get to them, that's fine.

EDIT: Also, I never head back from Birdsage or AnimalLover about their reviews, so I have removed them for the time being. The Play Visions Wild Dogs set has been reallocated to @Saarlooswolfhound

BlueKrono

Sounds good Blaine. I'm prioritizing the Marx Kronosaurus on the DTF, a long-awaited review I'm working on right now. That will be done this month, then I'll do the cecropia caterpillar in February. I hope that's not too long a wait.
I like turtles.

In that case I'll put my name on the Toy Fish Factory 'American Angler' box. Might as well get the fourth set on there...and when I post my next Replica Toy Fish write up, the groundwork will be laid for the included species!

OK, for now. If he comes back with a serious attempt to review it, or submits it before you get to it, I'll receive his review. But for now proceed with what you've been doing and if your review is ready when the time comes, post it! :)

I doubt he will though; according to our internal data he hasn't even logged in for 11 months.

Alright, I know I'm thinking way too far ahead but I've got Shark Week 2025 on my mind. This is mostly due to there being several sharks being released this year. It would be cool to see them all reviewed for Shark Week, if they're released in time, but is there any preference for who reviews what?

Mojo white shark: @JimoAi has expressed interest in this one so I assume he'll want to review it too. This is not a figure I want.

Safari Porbeagle shark: I plan on getting this one and will review it if no one else wants to but I did review the salmon shark, which is the same sculpt, so maybe a review from someone else would be better for this one?

CollectA megamouth: Still not sure if I want this one since I have Safari's. If no one wants to review it I would get it for that express purpose, a good excuse to get a second figure of a cool species. Looks to be an excellent figure!

Papo thresher shark: I'm most interested in potentially reviewing this one but I feel like @Alopias superciliosus might be keen to review it too. I have the Safari thresher shark (a pelagic thresher) so whether it's a common or bigeye I'll be getting this one.

Thoughts? I would literally review all of these (aside from the Mojo white) if no one else wants to but I'm also happy to review just one of them if there's interest in the other figures from other reviewers.

Of these, the only I intend to get now is the Safari Porbeagle. I will probably get the Papo thresher if a Bigeye or Common. However I won't reserve any of these for review.
I'll wait to see 1) what figures I have and 2) what hasn't been reviewed or reserved as we get closer to the date (July, I believe?).

Because I am a synoptic collector, I have 'better' examples of most taxa and a lot of what I have has been reviewed already, but I am sure I can find something as we get closer, even if it's a ray or sawfish or similar.

Let's do our best to do one figure per reviewer for Shark Week specifically for the time being, since there are only 7 days, as I am sure Saarlooswolfhound and sbell (and others?) might want to contribute, too. If there are open days when the time comes, it can be a free for all if others want to review more than one.

sbell

Like Blaine, the only one I'll definitely get (eventually) is the porbeagle, we'll see on the thresher and megamouth.

I usually dig into the depths of the collection for shark week, but we never know. Maybe Japan will bring out something new and worthwhile...!

Haha, don't worry, I don't have aspirations to hoard Shark Week. I may write a lot of reviews but I don't think I could do one-a-day for a week. I'm just getting a feel for who wants to review what while I plan my purchases for the year. And even if I do end up reviewing the porbeagle, thresher, and megamouth, they wouldn't all have to be for Shark Week.  :))

bmathison1972

Perfect. Well I doubt I'll request any of those you listed above. I think I'll pick a ray that hasn't been reviewed yet to add some variety. We'll see as we get closer.

Alopias superciliosus

Of those, I'll definitely be getting the Porbeagle (new species) and Megamouth (upgrade to the Safari). Thanks of thinking of me for the Papo thresher @Gwangi , but I won't reserve it just yet. I'm unsure if I'll pick it  up yet; it'll depend on species and the level of detail. If it's a Bigeye, I may not get it since I'm a one synoptic collector, and I love the MBA one. Although it may be fun to still get the Papo "Bigeye" and compare it to the MBA for Shark Week- the species is my forum name after all  ;D

But honestly, I'm also totally fine if other members want to review any or all of these new releases! I have a few ideas for some rare shark figures in my collection, including something I would've done for Shark Week last year if the package had arrived a week earlier- so I'll have something for Shark Week regardless  ;)

Gwangi

Yeah, I realize a lot of you have larger collections than myself and also collect vintage or Japanese figures that I don't collect. I look forward to the offbeat figures that will inevitably get reviewed.

JimoAi

I'm leaning more on thresher but the mojo white shark is my spot. Maybe I'll convince y'all to upgrade your whites

You are putting a lot of confidence in a figure you haven't seen in-hand yet.

The topics of my next three reviews should come in the mail today. Was hoping they would have come earlier but they weren't shipped out until after the holidays. I won't reserve or announce them, but after the first is posted, you'll know the theme.

As mentioned earlier I am taking a hiatus on the Smithsonian Insects until Spring when outdoor photography is more conducive for such critters.

Not sure I would consider it an upgrade from what I have.  ;D I do encourage you to try to convince me otherwise though.

Minizoo has more in hand pictures and I'm over the heels for it except for 1 or 2 minor gripes
