Yeah, turns out Linnean groups aren't great for actual relationships.

Yup, but there are plenty of holdouts that will gladly argue with ya about it.

Modern systematics is abandoning Linnaean hierarchy for clade-based organization based on proposed evolutionary relationships :). Funny this has come up; I am actually working on a clade-based inventory of my collection based on the format of Adl and colleagues (2019) on the higher taxonomy of eukaryotes. I was going to email it to some of you when completed LOL

I spent about a year working out a cladistics based taxonomy to align with my database (above the family level).

It's harder to remember where things are, but I have a massive spreadsheet to keep track

It's hard to do in a database unless you want lots of columns lol. I use Linnaen categories for my Excel database, but it's more for convenience

I DO have lots of columns, imported from the Excel sheet I prepared it all on.
I can't share it here but it's ridiculous.

I've also made allowances for things like scenery and objects and imaginary/fantasy animals

And Insectivora is still the name. But it probably would be debatable if elephant shrews still belongs here or not. For practical convenience I still include them in Insectivora order in my photo archive and species factsheets. Moles (except marsupial), shrews, tenrecs, hedgehogs and solenodons belong all of them to Insectivora order.

Insectivora is no longer valid as it was found to be paraphyletic. This has been established for some time now, at least since 1999.

Moles, shrews, hedgehogs and solenodon are in Eulipotyphla, part of Laurasiatheria.

Most of the other former insectivora (golden moles, tenrecs, otter shrews) are in Afrosoricida while elephant shrews are a sister group Macroscelida (within, both overall part of Afrotheria.

Overall insectivora was mostly a waste basket for any small, probably insectivorous placental-- a huge group that also included colugos and tree shrews, and a lot of fossil taxa.

Time for another walkaround transfer, this time it's my own walkaround of the Safari Ltd. IC spiny lobster: http://animaltoyforum.com/blog/2022/09/13/spiny-lobster-incredible-creatures-by-safari-ltd/

BTW, in preparing this, I noticed the only IC crustacean left to cover is the hermit crab!

Thanks, I was already aware of this opinion since long years ago. But excluding colugos and tree shrews.

The review title is missing the company name. :o

Ah, so it is. Good catch, thank you sir! It is corrected!

I migrated over my walkaround the the Aquatic Museum collection by Wing Mau. I had been considering this for a while, but when one of the figures came up for today's Museum post, I thought it was a good time to do it

Nice I have this figure. I feel the paint is better on mine but I'll have to check more closely when I get home (I may just not be remembering correctly)

No, you're probably right. Mine is a first run model, and as with all Safari, the paint is much more carefully applied.

I don't doubt it. You probably read the review but in it I mention that I looked at about 7 specimens of this figure and this was the best of the lot.

bmathison1972

I bought mine online in 2019 or so. I can't tell its quality from my initial pic on the forum but I'll look this weekend. Still probably the best coyote figure out there (of the relatively few made; the Blog has three already!).
