Just recently I got these old castings from toads, frogs and one Salamander from my mother in law. They were made by my late father in law. He was taxidermist and co-founder of a natural museum in Nijmegen, the city were he was born.

I am going to paint them as natural as possible, so that will be a task. I will show the results when progression is made!

Common toad, European toad (Bufo bufo).

European tree forg (Hyla arborea) and common midwife toad (Alytes obstetricans)

Moor frog (Rana arvalis).

Common spadefoot,or garlic toad (Pelobates fuscus).

Natterjack toad (Epidalea calamita).

Alpine salamander (Salamandra atra).

What an amazing hyper-realistic models! You was lucky to get them :) and in scale 1:1 they could look real specimens :)
The salamander will be the easiest to paint :D (except the substrate of course)

Thanks Isidro!
They are scale 1:1 and cast from real specimens I think. They were made for museums.

do you have any arthropod models? whenever I see good arthropod models at a museum I often wonder what happens when the display is retired? there are some I'd love to get! lol

No, sadly no arthropod models, I have seen an atempt of casting Lucanus cervus on a leaf but looks like it was a test. On Etsy there is a guy who has very cool insect casts.

really awesome models, have to be painted though.

Painted the Natterjack toad (Epidalea calamita). The matt varnish turned out to be to shinny.  I will have to fix that.

Beetle Guy stuns me with his artwork. I still can't get over that Lucanus capreolus  ::)
