Great addition stemturtle! Looks like a nice realistic figure, rather than an anthropomorphised character.

King Louie actually is not in the Jungle Book books. He was added for the Disney cartoon movie, but when they made the live action/CGI one a couple years ago, they changed Louie from an orangutan to Gigantopithecus, namely because the former has never occurred in India whereas the latter has!

I am surprised this figure didn't get more chatter on DTF since it's an extinct guy! :)

It did get a little, but the toy line didn't last long, so it kind of skipped past most people!

Bonobo, Pan paniscus (Safari Primates Toob), 2.5 inches or 6.3 cm.

Enlargement of bonobo's face

The bonobo is more gracile than the common chimpanzee, with long legs and arms. Adults retain a tail tuft.
The face is dark with pink lips, and long, parted hair. Due to the small size of this figure, not all of these characteristics are developed.
The abdomen is marked with the word bonobo. This toy displaces the porcelain figurine by Little Critterz.

While I am delighted that this figure was issued, I wish that Safari would create a larger model that shows parted hair, side whiskers, and pink lips.

Takama

My one and Only Gorilla Figure.   It is a nice sculpt, and a decent size as well

Beetle guy

Look at this one (without the funny stuff around) very expensive but man, what a sculpt and  character!

To beetle or not to beetle.

Advicot

Didn't Papo release an albino version of this figure, has it been retired or did they release a small number of them?
Don't I take long uploading photos!

@stemturtle - Schleich's website specifically markets their 2017 gorilla as Gorilla gorilla.

@stemturtle - Schleich's website specifically markets their 2017 gorilla as Gorilla gorilla.

Abe Lincoln said that if you call a dog's tail a leg, the dog still has only four legs.
Schleich 14770 looks like an eastern gorilla, Gorilla beringei, but we accept the ID of the manufacturer, and edit to correct the ID to western gorilla, G. gorilla.
Thanks to @bmathison1972 for the information.

yeah. Unfortunately with toys, a gorilla is a gorilla is a gorilla. Interpreting the morphologic features of a 6.0 cm tall figure that represents a 200+ kg animal is futile  :)) :)) :)) ;D So, I am going with manufactuers' suggestions :)

Mountain gorilla, Gorilla beringei beringei (Wildlife by CollectA),
#88899, height 3.2 in. or 8 cm. 2020.

See an excellent review of this mountain gorilla on the Animal Toy Blog by @suspsy.

We replace Schleich 14770 (on left) with CollectA 88899 as an example of an eastern gorilla.

EDIT: Notice that the profile of the nose of the western gorilla forms an overhang that is not present for the eastern gorilla.
See other distinguishing differences in a walkaround of the CollectA gorilla on STS by RtasVadumee.

Several Apes in the 'Evolution of Humanity' set by Tama-Kyu.

From left to right:
1. 'Ape' (I databased mine as Orrorin)
2. Ardipithecus
3. Homo erectus
4. Homo neanderthalensis
5. Homo sapiens (modern)

A review of the set can be seen on the Dinosaur Toy Blog here: https://dinotoyblog.com/evolution-of-humanity-tama-kyu/

EpicRaptorMan

@Kikimalou your bonobo has much better paint than mine. Mine is hyper glossy black paint, with an entire white nose/mouth/lips, no pink, and less detailed eyes.

The 2024 Schleich bonobo also joins my Museum:
