Who makes it? Safari Ltd as part of their Prehistoric Sea Life Toob, item number 682404. It’s a set that I’ve previously talked about before.
When did it come out? The toob was released in 2009
Still available? I still thought it was…even though it was discussed by me before! I think I’m in denial.
Where can it be found in my displays? On a whole shelf of small toob-size animals, mostly from Safari!
How does it fit in the collection? Prehistoric, small, Safari set? Of course I have to get it! And the species it represents, Henodus, is pretty unusual.
Any story behind it? I’ve already referenced the two posts of animals from this set–so it’s already been said! I was working at a dino museum, we had in Safari figures, it was awesome!
Notable remarks about this figure (a review that isn’t really a review): It’s really a shame that this toob is discontinued. Because among the figures, this Henodus is almost worth it on its own! This small figure, about 1:12 scale, is a great replication of the known skeletons. It also stands out that the figure is relatively large for a toob figure, so it can work well in dioramas. The strange, flattened edges to the carapace, the squared, broad mouth, the spiky tail–it’s all very well done. The colour pattern is kind of derivative, similar to many depictions, which is probably where the inspiration came from. I really can’t say much, it’s just a really good figure.
Would I recommend it? I would wholeheartedly recommend this one. I know the toob is out of production, but I am pretty sure it can still be found. And if you, or anyone you know, is a fan of prehistoric reptiles, make sure this set is in the collection. Track it down now, before it becomes as hard to find and as expensive as the only other Henodus figure, the Play Visions one (which is also great, but not as good).
